Who's the best live..

If you've never seen KISS in heels and make-up, you should.

Paul McCartney (that guy who wrote "Helter Skelter") played 2 and a half hours of number 1 hits.

Boston sounded better than their records, people wouldn't leave.

Van Halen with Roth. Definitely. They fucked with reality.

Most definately Metallica.

Aerosmith came a close second Steve Vai was supporting I don't know if anyone's heard of him.

I also like DOTR, never heard them live but a colleague of mine had a CD of them which he allowed me to listen to.

Guns and Roses were crap I waited about 20 mins at Milton Keynes for them to turn up, it was pissing down with rain and all I wanted to do at the end of it was go home.

It all depends -

Dead heads used (still do I'm sure) the X-factor - it depends on the night (day maybe), the karma, the health of the players - or anything else that may stimulate or squelch the cohesiveness of play. Every band can have a miserable night and suck big time. I've seen/heard Dylan, Petty, Santana, the Dead, the Stones, NRBQ, Costello - all have horrid performances - but I've seen/heard them all have glorious, magical moments - and sometimes it's just that - moments. I've been in small intimate clubs, listening to a "nowhere band" and it's been nirvan (not the band) the feeling. Magic can happen - so can shit - to nearly everyband everywhere. I know this - been working recording studios, stages, monitor mixes, house mixers - all of my early professional career. There is no best live band - there is most consistent. And for that I would have (according to what I've seen/heard) the Allmans or E Street. A couple of real tight groups - consistent.

So sorry, sugah. Your answer was correct. ~bonk~ on me for forgetting to confirm this with you. I would so suck at being a game show host.

Alice Cooper till rules as #1 concert in my book!!!
The Ramones, a close second as to almost be incestuous!!

Best Show : Social Distortion, Dallas Texas '95

Worst show: Guns-n-Roses, Worcester Mass '89

I don't wanna grow up!

Actually, He co-wrote: Revolution, I think it was with Charles Manson.

Pluto Monkey.

My fav tune is "American Woman (Meet the Scotsquatch)"

This group is electrifying, especially their hair.

Hahaha. Thanks Dishy Debwa and Handy Andy (how's the new season of 'Changing Rooms' going, BTW?). Must warn you that Pluto Monkey are pretty crap live - just me on bass, Paul Vickers singing and a dodgy karaoke-style backing tape.

When we played in London we got a frightening look at our fanbase. Our audience mainly consisted of an enthusiastic middle-aged man in make-up and seven 12-year-old girls with umbrellas. (The pre-pubescent females - one of whom was apparently the landlord's daughter - had become enamoured with Mr Vickers' cherubic golden curls at the soundcheck.)

In some ways our music is even stranger than our fans. Download three Pluto Monkey songs free through this strand:

Dear Cyra & Bella - thanks. Don't know if there'll be any more Dawn Of The Replicants gigs now that myself & Paul are concentrating on Pluto Monkey.

There's quite a funny site made by a fan strangely obsessed with DOTR and Pearl Jam (most peculiar - the Replicants sounded nothing like Pearl Jam):

http://www.expunge.fsnet.co.uk/dotr/dotr.htm

It's got links to interviews & press and stuff if anyone's interested.

Bella - you used to be able to get our albums in America on import from specialist shops (I got a letter from a woman in California saying she bought DOTR stuff on Venice Beach). So, you might be able to get it in Canada still.

Anyway - who's the best live? The RAMONES were cool at Edinburgh Playhouse in 1987. Black leather. Flourescent green socks. ONE TWO THREE FOUR! Gabba Gabba Hey!

TOM WAITS the same year (I think) was excellent - total trashy glamour, like a down 'n' out Sinatra. He had a fridge on stage so he could drink cold beers, his bongo-player wore a fez, he wailed into a loudhailer a lot of the time and he regularly hurled cigars from his pockets into the audience. Between songs he told hilarious surreal little tales.

I saw JULIAN COPE (ex-lead vocalist with The Teardrop Explodes) 6 times between 1986 and 1990. I'd say he was the best live performer I saw - always putting on a wild, emotional show. He was like a 1980s take on Iggy Stooge or the Doors' Jim Morrisson - but with a punkrock attitude and a lot of dark humour thrown in. He had a specially constructed mic-stand that he could stand on and swing out over the audience. He would often hurl himself dangerously onto the stage floor at the climax of 'Reynard The Fox'. He'd once (in the early '80s) been so deranged that he'd cut his chest open onstage with a broken mic-stand as he quoted from the British comedy film, 'Carry On Cleo': "Infamy, infamy, they've all got it in for me..." So it was always a bit nerve-wracking watching him - you didn't know what he was going to do next. Now his brain's a bit fried. He goes about in terrible yellow jogging-bottoms, often with a pony-tail and spends his time hugging trees and visiting stone circles and Neolithic sites.
