I agree with destinie about the taboo. Also, the dramatic conflicts are easy to plot.

Incest is timeless. Consider Oedipus Rex, or Hamlet.

Much of what is classed here as 'incest' is culture dependent. In biblical times it was not incest to marry your deceased brother's wife, it was compulsory!

Personally I don't get into the "Immediate family" incest stories...its too hard to suspend your disbelief in terms of how it takes place in most of them. I've always liked the ones where its someone running into the cousin or second cousin they haven't seen in years, where its easy to be overcome as lust since you aren't constantly thinking of them as "family". Off-hand I can't think of anywhere, or any religion, where second cousin is illegal or even frowned upon. It's almost the same for first cousins and step-siblings. So it isn't incest, so where's the kick?

I understand. Im sure many of us could tell you horror stories about abuse as kids too. Thats why I said I would never ever condone true incest. Not even between adults. The reason I believe that the popularity of incest stories is so rampant is that it's fantastical taboo, things that most people think about and never attempt, or some people have attempted and had other write about it either way, there is no denying it's popularity among all age groups. Maybe I'm Sick but....

I may be a weirdo but my fantasies can be absolutely crazy such as mother/son or sister/brother sex but if anything like that occurred in reality I'd be sick to my stomach! In other words, I can have fantasies that I'd be disgusted by in reality. People have been writing stories about incest since the written word could be written and people have been reading them.

I did read once victims of incest have a higher percentage of promiscuity and over half would have a bi sexual relationship before 20.

All I know is that being a real victim of it seriously ruins years of your life and several relationships.

As for my own incest fantasies, I think they're in part based in the regret I have that I didn't have sex till I was 25. So I have fantasies about myself as a very young girl having sex.
