I was just wondering, because I can't really see how an attraction to it would be a good thing evolutionarily speaking...so why is that that many members of both sexes feel an urge to do it? Same goes for oral sex, and so on. Is it just the pursuit of pleasure? I can accept that with things that don't encourage us NOT to indulge in reproductive sex, but surely things like that actively discourage it? In a short term sense, anyway.

For oral sex- I've yet to meet a person who said they disliked oral sex (unless they were menstrating).
For anal- not everyone likes and some people only like it on certain terms and other hate even the idea of it.

You make the assumption that because it is defined by society as sexual that it must be driven by an evolutionary urge? Fact is a lot of what we define as "sex" is simply pleasurable on a physical and emotional layer and throughout history we've gone to great lenghts to stop evolution, or at least, reproduction getting in the way of just feeling good.

I feel I have to say something about this. You may think that anal sex is safe (er) than vaginal sex in a family planning way but, it isn't really. Fluids leak and pool and migrate. Whenever sperm is allowed to flow freely, it is possible to get pregnant. I have a 6 year old to prove it.

For instance perhaps it's a sign of something that increases sex in general (an example would be a bigger sex drive, etc.) All that's needed is that it increases reproduction down the line, not that the actual act itsef increases fitness.
