Why is it that not one of your 30 Rambo lawyers have come up with one person who actually paid for a rape kit? Could it possibly be that they were charged to the insurance companies when possible and it was the insurance people who complained?

Protecting the identity of a rape victim is paramount - more important then making them fodder for political gain. Should someone come forward and self-disclose, that's fine, but no one with the files should help identify anyone who ever was raped.

In my State the evidence kit itself is paid by the AG's office, the hospital visit exam and antibiotics are charged to the individual victimized. If they have no insurance there are other sources for payment assistance including the far-left socialist program "crime victims compensation" program that might reimburse some expenses as long as the person victimized cooperates with law enforcement.

Do you know what she vetoed? Does it even matter to you what she vetoed?

Those are straight questions, because here's what I don't get. We're being asked to look at this woman as a model of fiscal responsibility, when she sits at the top of a budgetary system that never asks citizens for a single dime to fund anything at all. On the contrary, the state writes annual checks to each Alaskan, $3,269 for 2008 - i.e., $22,883 for Sarah Palin's family alone! How is this even *remotely* comparable to the fiscal challenges faced by other states - not to mention the Federal government?

In addition, consider the following facts.

According to the FBI, Alaska leads the nation in reported forcible rapes per capita, with a rate two and a half times the national average. Source.

Only one out of 20 children entering ninth grade in Alaska will have a college degree 10 years later. Alaska is eighth from the bottom among states in the number of ninth-graders graduating four years later; fourth from the bottom in high school seniors going directly to college, and last in the number of college freshmen receiving a bachelor's degree within 150 percent of the normal program length. Source.

Alaska has the highest suicide rate in the country. Source.

I could go on, but presumably I've made my point. Fiscal responsibility is great, but slashing budgets does not necessarily mean that the state's resources are being allocated in a responsible way.

The state has a responsibility to its citizens that goes beyond tapping oil wealth and milking the Lower 48 for infrastructure earmarks. How has Palin addressed those issues? In what way has she harnessed the SURPLUS at her command and combated the very real problems of the community in which she lives?

I do NOT love the fact that she taxed oil companies and used the proceeds to write checks to Alaskans while milking you, me, Netzach, and everybody else in the Lower 48 for hundreds of millions of dollars in earmark funds.

Nor do I have evidence that she was responsibly addressing the dire social, educational, mental health, and other issues in her state while cutting checks to the non-tax-paying populace at the very same time.

My understanding is that she cut property taxes. So basically, the feds (everyone else) pays for Alaskan social services and job subsidies, Alaskans get a fat check back, the place still functions somewhat simply by dint of having a *small population* and the governor is seen as so very rational and reasonable when she trashes cultural projects and social services projects for people with brain injuries and for vets. (it's in there mm mmm)

She's simply doing something that you CAN NOT do in NY, DE, MN, AZ or any other state. Duh. Well, you can and you do, but up the scale and it becomes a total impossibility to say "nah, we don't need that money for anything."

I don't hate Sarah Palin. I also don't see her as any kind of threat to Obama. Sarah Palin is a loose cannon. She has shown this mulitple times in Alaska, and the fact that her loyalty the Republican Party there was in question should be a concern to them.

How 'bout 'other'? I don't think she has enough experience. And I don't hate her.

I don't hate Sarah Palin. I hate that there are people in our country who think she's even remotely qualified for the position of Vice President, much less President.

She knows nothing about foreign policy.

She knows nothing about fiscal responsibility.

She speaks blithely about entering into yet another war.

She is heavily invested in a religious dogma that insists she oppose our First Amendment rights.

Oh, and this is the woman who can't be interviewed and is constantly protected from substantive questioning while the GOP tries to stir up crap about sexism and Obama calling her a pig --- this is the "tough" woman who called Hillary Clinton a whiner?

Seriously? What kind of "barracuda" can't even stand up to Larry King?

I don't hate Palin but her daughter sure is doing her very best to be representative of the worst of todays youth.

Considering the source (The National Enquirer), I don't give this story much credence. If it came out in the NYT or other relatively responsible media source, I'd upgrade it from "very doubtful/probably BS" to "maybe true." Given her previous media exposure (since momma's nomination), TNE can make a good case for "public figure" protection against libel, invasion of privacy, etc., as they have in other previous cases. IF there's a libel suit, however, it won't and can't be settled before the election, and thus the only effect it will have on the election is the few braindeads who actually believe TNE prints nothing but the truth. They won't/shouldn't make a difference. If they do, I pity our nation's future.

It's sticky lately. They broke the Edwards affair - real.

Personally I don't give a shit what you light up and what/who you stick your dick in or who sticks a dick in you - it's the hypocrisy that slays me. It's not necessarily a R/D thing - Eliot Spitzer was as fun to watch go down as Larry Craig because he had the audacity to spend time bringing down prostitution rings.

BTW doesn't Larry Craig still technically have his job? What do you have to do to lose one if you're a republican, prey on local farmer's livestock raw in the field? Go postal? Wear a tutu to the press club dinner?

I don't believe those pictures are Bristol... they don't look anything like her.

I don't hate Palin either, I'm just trying to understand her, which is not easy. I would really like to see her speak for herself for once, skip the script that she's been preaching, over and over and say what she really means, without going around a whole lot of bushes.

I admit that I am politically challenged. I don't understand a lot about politics, and would like to learn more. I read about both parties, and it just seems like the Republican side is hostile and defensive. Otherwise, why would they have to try to get us to believe untruths?

Yeah, I'll go with this one. I dont hate her, I just dont think she's right for the job, for one. And secondly, I dont like the lies intentional or otherwise - the bridge to nowhere, and I dont like what I've seen of her management skills: leaving her town in debt, wanting to start a transparency program that's already in effect, making rape victims pay for their own rape kits. I think choosing her has cheapened the whole "circus" in that it was almost like.. "John, just pick someone for VP, anyone with boobs and a vagina will do, but pick a cute one."

Palin's daughter isn't running for president. Obama admits to being a pot head and crack head. As a younger man. Oh yeah, he's a liberal so it's cool. Very fucking cool.

I don't think everything they print is BS, but given their overall record, to rely on them as "sole source" for just about anything is not going to happen for me. Yes, they've broken some few stories that the MSM didn't get, or didn't want to break (first), but I still want to see any story of substance that outs a public figure in this way come out in something other than TNE. Preferably several somethings.

However, having made that statement, I also have to admit that I wouldn't be surprised if the story turns out to be (at least) based on facts. Teens these days are quite liable to say - and do - anything they think at the moment would be fun, cool or that their parents wouldn't want them to do. <Sigh>

That's not just teens "these days" thank you very much, that's teens since the invention of the teenager.

Another damned good reason to be liberal. Thanks, WD :D

Bullseye, on all counts.

Exactly. And she didn't ask for this shit.

If people want to blast Palin on ethical issues, let's talk about her treatment of wolves or something. Leave the kids out of it.

*growl*

That sort of 'hunting' (I hate to call it that) fiercely pisses me off. And it's not like the wolf population is strong enough nationwide to support such wholesale slaughter.

As if I needed more reasons to note vote for that ticket
