From the lurching, barely articulate reactions to this story from the McCain campaign, it's pretty clear that they were not expecting this to become a story. BTW, Netz, the Neiman-Marcus in Minneapolis figured in big-time: the very same N-M that seems to have been the source for much of Norm Coleman's wardrobe. Some wag opined that N-M might soon start billing itself as "the place to outfit your up-and-coming wingnut politician."

I um, worked there. My last job for "the man."

Without setting myself up for lawsuits suffice it to say that it fits. Well.

(I probably should shut up now, but - )I can't begin to tell you how many times we took returns that were likely worn to a gala, while gritting our teeth to "keep the customer." Maybe there'll be a very ashamed staffer there tomorrow.

It's digusting that she spent that much money on her appearance while a lot of people face the prospect of unemploymend and/or loosing their homes.
Surley that money would have been better spent getting her a brain transplant!

I came across this today

The quote below is granted, a sound bite, but it is the most inane bit of dialogue that I think I've heard in a while. From James Dobson, Focus on the Family:

[Dobson asks about media attacks on her and Joe the Plumber – she says that if she can’t handle the attacks, she shouldn’t have offered herself up as VP.]

Dobson: [He had doubts and concerns about McCain and Republicans but] The Republican Platform is the strongest pro-life, pro-family document to come out of a political party, even more so than the platforms during the campaigns of Ronald Reagan. There are principles there that I’ve been fighting for for thirty, forty years and you are tying to articulate those same principles, aren’t you?

Palin: Absolutely, and Dr. Dobson thank you so much for recognizing that. This is a strong platform [built] around the planks in this platform that respect life and respect the entrepreneurial spirit of this great country and those things, back to the social issues that are what Republicans, at least in the past, had articulated and tied to stand on. Now, finally, we have very solid planks in the platform that will allow us to build an even stronger foundation for our country. It’s all good and it’s encouraging. You would maybe have assumed that we would have gotten further away from those strong planks. But no, they're there, they're solid, we stand on them and again I believe that it is the right agenda for the country at this time. Very, very clear and contrasted tickets in this election November 4th. People are going to see the clear contrasts, you just go to the planks in our platforms and that’s where you see them.

What on earth did she say?

Further, and closer to my heart (if you read the rest of the transcript)...is a reference back to Roseanne Cash's entry I posted a few days ago. When a woman of a "mature age" (as in OB-GYN speak) who already knows she is carrying a child who may have special needs at birth, chooses to deliver a speech after her water has broken before taking the multi-hour flight back to her small town...

I know I don't know all of the facts. I know that everyone makes their personal decisions based on facts that they have (and that we might not be privy to), but I seriously cannot fathom choosing to put a speech before the responsibility of delivering another human life in the healthiest environment possible. Especially since she knew that this new life had Downs when she was only 13 weeks pregnant.

The entire interview can be found here: http://rightwingwatch.org/content/palin-declares-herself-hardcore-pro-lifer-during-dobson-lovefest

I honestly try to give people the benefit of the doubt. And I understand her feeling that she had a responsibility as Governor, but I can't help but let my mind wander as to what she was thinking.

I'm a bit rabid on this topic as I have experienced Downs Syndrome not only among close friends but also within my family. It is not something to be taken lightly, medically, although a blessing at the same time. Its an adjustment for any family, and perhaps the Palin family is still adjusting, which is fair. I just still don't understand how she chose to travel and then ignore her labor as she did, so late in her pregnancy.

Sigh...because a very kind fellow litster gave me detailed instructions on hotlinking...which I thought I had mastered...but apparently not.

Of course no sane person does that!!!

If Todd has truly given up his secessionist beliefs, then he'd have acted like any sane person. How did they even find a plane that would let her FLY?

They're radical secessionists. Look - ACORN!

I remember when the only store was the one in Dallas. In that era there was a cartoon in the New Yorker with a couple of old people (who made the Clampetts look fashionable) living in a falling-down shack and an oil gusher sprouting up in the front yard. The caption read: "Pa, how late does Nieman-Marcus stay open?"

Incidentally, the "wear it and return it" bit happens all over the country.

Reading this, with the numbers the way they are, I get images of McPalin walking the plank and standing on the planks that form the foundation of their political gallows.

This confounds me, too. I also heard she was at 8 months when she went into labor. If that's the case, I really can't imagine what she must have been thinking flying back to a small town, right over several major cities with outstanding hospitals and NICUs. I try not to judge, but I can't think of any pregnant women who would consider traveling so far that late in their pregnancy, traveling all day after going into labor or not going to the nearest qualified hospital when they go into early labor or have a special needs child on the way. Her actions are really bizarre, and between this and her hauling the baby around in front of huge crowds like a prop, I seriously question her judgment.

Sigh...because a very kind fellow litster gave me detailed instructions on hotlinking...which I thought I had mastered...but apparently not.
I'm assuming you mean hyperlinking? If so:

After copying the URL of the link:
1) Write the text you want to appear, e.g. Link to Entire Interview
2) Highlight that text.
3) Click the
createlink.gif
button.
4) Make sure the 'http://' in the box that pops up is highlighted and paste (Ctrl+v) the URL into the box. (If the http:// part isn't highlighted, you'll end up with two of them, and the link won't work, so make sure you only have one in the end.)
OPTIONAL 5) If you want to check it, click the Preview Post button below the text box, and open the link in a new tab or window, to make sure everything looks good and works.

Your hyperlink should look like this, w/o the spaces:
Link to Entire Interview

You can find instructions on hotlinking images (inserting them directly into posts) in the FAQs - Read Before Posting... sticky at the top of the How To forum page. :)

Here's another funny snippet from the scottish rag the Daily Record.
""Ive just read that the republicans spent £80'000 on sarah palins outfits for her rally appearances. Is it too much to hope that one of these outfits has antlers and the rally is in Alaska?":)

That's a good one. :D

Hi 00Syd,

I was totally surprised by this endorsement too until I found out this paper endorsed Kerry in '04. Yet I still must admit that I'm impressed that they didn't just go with the hometown girl!

Is there a MORE republican state in the union than Alaska? A paper who would endorse Kerry like the Atlanta Journal by the way, are just liberal rags who would rubberstamp anyone with a (D) by their name. Journalism is dead in America. Now go kill talk radio you fascist pigs.

Like the Star Tribune. It's so liberal in the tank and totally biased it just endorsed Norm. Obviously someone's got them in their pocket when it's said and done. If Coleman wins, it will be because of the a Strib, and I hope every single subscribing democrat pulls subscription. If you like bridges falling down better than paying prior tax rates maybe they should fall on YOUR head, obviously they may as well have.

Talk Radio hath killed itself, like the party. If enough normal people find it odious and hate filled it'll go merrily on its way back under the rock it crawled out from.

Luckily I don't think anyone's infringing on the rights of lunatics to spout hate on air any time soon. I personally don't believe in enforced fairness doctrine, I think the answer is simply to be smarter, funnier, better and more rational, and we seem to be doing that fine lately. If the Obama sketches on SNL fall flat compared to Palin, it's simply because the left has never ever ever thought up anything that funny. Ever. Not even Ralph Nader. And shit, Ralph is pretty funny.

But of course, the far-right talk radio segment believes in free speech. So much so that you should see how it praises dissent on the right, like Chris Buckley, Kathleen Harris, David Frum and Colin Powell. Free thought is SO alive and well there.
