I am really curious what motivates everyone to write Erotica

For me I write because I have a very vivid imagination (ADHD) and writing it down really helps me to proces all those fantasies.
I just started writing Erotica, but I have written (or at least started) some fantasy stories before for that same reason.
Doesn't mean I don't want to improve or enjoy other people liking my stories though. But mostly seeing my fantasies written out just gives me enjoyment.

So why does everyone write?
To let others enjoy your stories?
To get published?
To share your own experiences?
Or like me, to get your fantasies in writing?
Do you write what you want or write what others will enjoy?

I write because I was inspired by what I had read on here. One of my main motivations was to signpost readers to other great stories, on and off lit.

Both of these things. Reading here inspired me to share some of my fantasies. The approval of others keeps me coming back and, in the background, plotting further stories within the same universe.

I do it because the folks who write the type of stories I like don't publish one very often. It fulfills a desire to have something I like to read after I've read their stories multiple times.

Another question may be, why don't you write? That's one I increasingly toy with.

A combination of reasons. I had a long pent-up, but completely unrealized, desire to write creatively. I did a little creative writing in high school, but none after that. Then I discovered online erotica around 2000, and Literotica sometime after that, and enjoyed it. For years, I thought, why don't I try that? I finally did in 2016, almost exactly 8 years ago.

I enjoy the sense of creative accomplishment. It's fun as well to spin my kinky fantasies. I enjoy the interaction with readers. I enjoy being part of this strange community.

I've always had a few stories (we'll more like snippets of scenes) floating around in my head, and I just made my mind up one day that I'd have a go at putting pen to paper so to speak. I've been a member of this site for years and it's been fun to contribute something back.

I read stories here on Literotica, and I leave comments critiquing their stories to point out my difficulty in understanding the flow, issues I find with conflicting details or missing motivations, and distracting grammar errors.

But unlike some complainers (who shall remain nameless,) I'll put my author ID both my comments and on my own work to show what I'd like to see. I may not get it right or perfect either when writing my own stories. But I hope I'm learning and getting better at it.

I write for two main reasons.

1. I just loved the idea of people getting off to my stories. It is a huge turn on for me.

2. I write because I feel like there are fantasies that I don't always see in other people's writing and I feel like I can't be alone in having these fantasies so I might as well put them out in the world.

To see if I can actually write. To expand and give life to some of my fantasies, both sexual and non-sexual. Maybe also to get an opportunity to discuss the nature of those fantasies and writing in general with like-minded people. The last one didn't come true, but the first two worked to my satisfaction, mostly.

Writing was my escape from a bad home life and now it's how I process experiences, work out how I feel about things, and analyze my current mindset.

Edited to add: Also because I need to sleep and I can't sleep when the characters are making movies in my head.

As a younger guy, I used to send women little short stories as a form of sexting and they loved it. Years later I realized I really liked doing that so I’m learning how to do it properly.

Mostly because I can't not write. I imagine things constantly, erotic and otherwise, and I have to get them on paper. I have to explore all the implications and the dark corners and the possibilities. They have to be concrete to do that.

Same reason I read almost obsessively.

When I start to feel like I have to write toward another motivation, including some of those on the list, I do a worse job of it.

I've been doing it for more than 50 years. I "published" a book of short stories when I was 7. Mom typed it up and gave Xerox copies to family and stuff.

Like you, to get my fantasies in writing.

I started writing for two reasons: my adoptive father is a writer, and as therapy for past trauma. I write for money (ghostwriting), to publish and sell stories (my own), for people here and on another site to read for free, because I like to write, and still as therapy.

I've loved good erotica for many years. Tried my hand at it in the '90s and put one story on Usenet. It went over pretty well, but I let it go until I found this site in 2018. Then I had a real creative burst, and wrote and published eleven stories in a year, a rate I haven't come close to since. But I'm still tickled by putting down something from my imagination and seeing how readers react. So I guess I write because there's an audience for something I can do. Secondly, writing erotica keeps my libido in gear; I like that thing a lot and want it to stick around, which is not a sure thing as one gets older.
