Why I don't miss having a real winter

Why I don't miss having a real winter?

Because it's

c
     o
          l
               d

dammit.

I grew up in a place that's as damn close to the tropics as you can get here in the states (not counting Key West, that's different) - Santa Barbara, California. I don't think it got below about 55 F more than once or twice as long as we lived there, and we didn't need air-conditioning, either.....just open the windows and that breeze come in from the ocean just fine.

I live in northern Alabama now, and I think it's too damn cold here in the wintertime. To my way of thinking, if it takes you longer to get dressed to go outside than it does for you to do whatever errand you're fixin' to do, then it's too fucking cold where you live. ;)

Oh my......are you going to fun in your future.;) ;) ;)

As noted by so many people here, it's all a matter of perspective.

Lived in both northern Quebec and northern British Columbia. -30F not at all uncommon, and -50F to be expected. The first winter in B.C. we had 12 1/2 feet of snow. Cross country skied to work sometimes. Others came in snowmobiles.

So by my standards, Toronto is mild. It's about 10F with the wind chill today.

See, the thing is, if he'd just been out ten minutes earlier and turned the car on first, it would have defosted by the time he wanted to leave.

But then we're not all that clever are we????

I know, I know, why let the truth get in the way of a good yarn!!!!

True though, yet some people put themselves through that every morning!!!

Some people are just too impatient for their own good, or they sleep in and end up leaving in a rush.

The very un-clever ones that do it for me, are those who boil up the kettle then pour the steaming hot water all over their freezing cold windscreens. CRAAAAAAAAAAAAACK!

Hey, on a similar note, there is an outside chance we'll have a white Christmas this year. Wouldn't that be luvverly? :D

WHen I tell people down here what snow removal tools I had when I lived in Wisconsin their eyes go round in horror.

Three snow shovels - one for the house and one for each car.
"The Claw" ice scraper, with claws for breaking the ice. Those were cool. They had a fur mitt on them, and you could get different furs, like polar bear or grizzly bear.
A broom, to sweep off the snow.
A snow brush, to brush off the rest.
A regular scraper.
A lock de-icer which may not work.
All the gas additives and windshield solutions.

A license plate and a credit card just wasn't enough. (Amateurs. )

LOL! I just go through cans and cans of de-icer and help that hole in the ozone layer along some more. I figure that global warming might be a good thing, on mornings like that.

Kidding! I know they don't contain CFCs any more. ;)

Not very good for you if you accidentally breath the stuff in, though. Although it does have lung warming properties.

This explains so much....in volumes.

Ok, I'll give you that, bitch. So what's your "excuse"?

I live near a landfill and above abandoned coal mines. Plus I rarely clean out my fridge.

Just in case anyone is wondering - today's high 74F (23C). Some days it's good to be me.

It's 36 here and ......yea.

It was 55 degrees here yesterday - not too damn cold.

Today, now, it's a different story - right now it's sitting at 40, I think.

I hate winter.

What's 2 celcius in farenheit? Cos that's what it is here right now. Brrrr!

Well, not here, cos I've got my central heating whacked up high. I'm actually typing this in my bikini.

I bet anyone who is at a footy match today (particularly the Portsmouth v. Arsenal one) is getting their balls frozen off. :D :p

Lou

P.S. At least Arsenal are winning, eh, love? ;)

That's around 36 or 37 F, love. Damn cold.

I went for a walk along the sea front...my jaw muscles, cheek bones and ears are still aching - from the wind chill. Damnnnnnnn it was cold.

Thanks, I thought it was around there, cos zero is 32, isn't it!?

I took the kids and dog to the park earlier. We must've stayed for about, um, 3 minutes! Then walked home again.

Yeah, I saw on the weather earlier, that taking wind chill into consideration, that makes it feel like about -6. Nice.

Cold okay.

That fellow in the film looked like he'd come out of work to his car, not out of bed, don't you think so?

I just resent all the clearing-off work. Only about two or three weeks of numbing, bone-chilling cold here. 40 F,
that's like a big relief when we see it again at the end of the winter. People come out with their jackets open, hatless.

When I lived in Milwaukee, there was only on-street parking. Some days you ended up parking 3 blocks from home. Then, after you shoveled your car out of the snowbank, some bastard would have your spot by the time you got home. I would've given my left nut for a driveway. Now that I have one... it doesn't snow here! (I moved south.)

Damn shame there's never a good market in left nuts.

Now porn's different. They say it has no redeeming value, but it can be redeemed for many times its value.

How is that done? I wouldn't mind redeeming some of mine. Unless you mean many times zereo, which is still zero.

C X 1.8 + 32 = F

2 X 1.8 = 3.6
3.6 + 32 = 35.6 :D
