k, and i mean no offence, this is just how i see it...as a general, i think men have this notion, somewhere subconciously that they can either get involved, 'turn' one or both of the women, or perhaps, have 'envy' at the sexuality exuded by the women together.

I think the appeal is by no means universal.... after all, what is? For example, I find Vana attractive but she is allergic to my anatomy. Back in my college days, my art text book had a concept of "strong and weak" or "masculine and feminine" lines. Strong lines were straight, angular, long and usually lead from the bottom of the picture upwards in terms of focus or leading lines. I am guessing they called them "masculine" based on old 1970's gender roles but whatever. Feminine or "weak" lines were curved, shorter, and usually lead either left to right or downward. For some reason I could never quite comprehend nor my art teacher explain to me, feminine could go masculine but masculine couldn't go feminine. It was jarring on an aesthetic level some how.

One project I did explored that dynamic. I had a female model, in a very sharp crisp suit stand very straight and reached upward. While she was not as feminine as she would have been otherwise, given the masculine "touch" was not dissonant. I had a guy, in loose clothes, curled around a large exercise ball. He lost all masculinity, and the facial hair that made him "masculine" was very disruptive, it was unsettling in that it was so out of place. Even drag queens do everything they can to eliminate all hints of their masculinity, but women in "men's clothes" don't have to hide their femininity.


I think there is something in the aesthetic that was, and is changing. The internet and public access forums allow anyone to put forth whatever they like, and those who like it are drawn to it so that vanguards like museum curators and gallery directors, who held to the old lines of "composition" are no longer keeping the old rules in the collective subconscious.
