Why the 'Liberal' cause will always fail...

...and then the storm arrived.....leave those old chestnuts where they lie.

Ami:rolleyes:

In actuality, present day 'liberalisim' is in a troikia with 'populisim' and 'know-nothing-isim'. A political Cereberus if you will. By mingling these three philosophies, it casts a wide net uniting social activists, pacifists, environmentalists, conspiracy theorists and isolationists under a rather ungainly umbrella.

Already the extreme left has become somewhat disillusioned with Obama the First because he's making an effort (feeble tho it may be) to reach across party lines to enact the first five year plan. If he'd line item veto all the pork out of it, it might have a chance of passage. But then he enrages members of congress and special interest groups that put it in to begin with.

It's windy at the top. ;)

Interesting points all, TE...Guess the honeymoon in DC never got off the ground?

Nobody's Alt

Memory fails me concerning your avatar, sidekick was Emma Peel, forgot the dude's name, "The Prisoner?" was that the show?

Not sure we have talked before, thank you for the response and I pretty much agree with you.

I often say that contemporary liberalism is just refashioned, old fashion religion, promising everything and giving nothing, but make sure you tithe and double tithe just to make sure you go to heaven.

The one reward for liberals, as I see it, after a lifetime of promiscuous behavior, is a continual diet of anxiety meds and an early grave with no one in attendance because they are all sterile.

On the Opium thing....when I take over the world, I intend to forbid government from banning, restricting or taxing any substance, except perhaps Plutonium. What might your opinion be on the total freedom of the individual to choose his own poison?

Amicus...

You are thinking of Patrick Macnee as John Steed, and Diana Rigg as Mrs. Peel in "The Avengers." I used to really enjoy the show, although it was quite improbable. Part of it was Diana Rigg in the body stocking.

I agree that Liberalism does promise pie in the sky, and fails because it fails to consider that people are individuals. Even so, I disagree with a good bit of what you espouse, unless you are just yanking people' chains with some of your rather half-baked ideas.

Lol, it's the pro abstinence Christians that have to take fertility drugs to pump up their atrophied reproductive organs, and you might be shocked at the quantities of prescriptions drugs and alcohol they imbibe, ol' Dubya looked like he fell off the wagon a couple of times.

. . . because you have defined "Liberal" as "a participant in a cause that will always fail." Kudos. ;)

You have a certain point there. Liberal, like beauty and obscenity, is in the eye of the beholder. I think of Amicus as being something of a Neanderthal, but I do agree with some of his ideas. However, there are people here who lump me in with him because I believe in personal freedom and responsibility, rather than some kind of "group entitlement."

Liberals will fail because the real American national debt is 56 TRILLION Dollars, not 10 TRILLION. There wont be half the money we need to pay the entitlements. So, with no money to give away, liberals will go away.

Liberal ideas won't always fail, and they haven't always failed. Public education, for instance, was a liberal idea, and now it is strictly mainstream. The US Constitution was a very liberal idea, as the term is now used. Imagine, allowing commoners to criticize the king!

Latest I heard most people may have a few 'Neandertal' genes as some think the different species could procreate....

I still have to::eek: when someone tells me that public, mandatory education is a success, anywhere in the world.

I just read a lengthy article posted by Excessica Guru, SelenaKitt, written by on the founders of e-book readers that confirms my suspicion that libraries, the mainstream press and brick and mortar bookstores are going the way of the horse and the typewriter.

Education in the future, although it may take a revolution to uproot the teachers unions and the totally abyssmal performance of public schools, will be over the internet, either at a child's home, or a neighborhood, 'safe house' where one parent will supervise the online learning process..

It is not just my opinion, but that of many more conversant with the subject than I, that public education has long outlived what ever use it may once have had.

That is not even to hint that education does not possess value, it surely does, but not the pap passed off as education in this time.

Further this is not a plea to return to whatever imagined fairy tale land you lefties think free people inhabit. It is an imperative to remove the education of of our children from the grasp of government and the indoctrination that now passes as an education.

If most of you were not so beholden to the teachers unions, the billions in real property of schools and grounds and a transportation system sadly outdated and dangerous, school buses, if you had even a clue as to the damage done by excessive property taxes that support the school system and the increasing federal control overriding state and local preferences, you would scream to high heaven to abolish this worthless public program.

Amicus...

You are somewhat correct; I was really thinking of the education I received in public elementary and high school in the forties and fifties. As for whether future teaching will be done over the internet, with one teacher and hundreds of classrooms full of students, that is an interesting theory. If it comes to pass, it will be free public education, just done through a different medium. Even when I was in high school, until May 1957, we made some use of what were called audio-visual aids for current events.

I have never had much use for unions of any kind, and the teachers I remember with the most respect were not members of any union.

No, that's not why. Not even close.

You have your opinion and I have mine.

Or maybe it's because you believe in "America," rather than some kind of "commie pinko socialism." It's very easy to be right if you define your opponents' ideas for them.

I only define my own ideas and, if others define their own ideas and they differ from mine, we will be in disagreement. Yes, I do believe in America, and I PROBABLY do not believe in Socialism, although that would depend on how it is defined.

For those who don't know, I had the fortune to be a talk radio host for over ten years, in two major metropolitan markets.

Does that matter? I've found that format to be a pandering squander itself, left or right. You have to take a position instead of being a mere arbiter to sell one's show that it can often break down into a shrill debauchery of parrotry.

Well, I would mention one place if I were not quite so paranoid about such things.

I'm not sure it'll happen in my lifetime. I often offer my students the option to read some of our class materials in digital format, and most of the time, they surprise be by being appalled at the thought.

This alone might prove harder than you think.

Xelebes....that is a valid criticism for some, but not all talk radio or television programs.

One can strive for the best, to indeed be an arbiter of ideas, not of dialetic.

I do not and never have had any association with any political party. What best defines my basic 'talking points', is a long lasting and still passionate love of America.

It is not a love affair that blinds one to the faults inherent in the history, rather one that admires the basic principles and will correct and even diminish the occasional failure.

It is curious, that over a forty year span, those who voice opposition to America, freedom, free enterprise, pick that which suits you, have never, and will not on this forum, express, document or defend whatever communal system of government and economics they advocate.

That soft and squishy lack of substance is always ignored and new attacks on America are formulated.

And, yeah...I speak in the same manner I write...elipses & all.

Amicus....

Our new Pres can't even find nominees that bother to pay taxes
Daschle has withdrawn as HHS and the Lady that was going to work on Govt. Performance :)rolleyes:) has also bowed out, both due to tax problems.

No wonder Dems don't mind raising taxes, they never pay them!

Then why have I heard it all before? It's shtick baby, you don't have an original thought in your whole head.
