Why? Why Not? Why On Earth?

Hey everyone. Nice chilly hellos to you all. WE'VE GOT ICE! Some schools (like ours) are starting 2 hours late, most others are closed today! We've got like 1/16" ice on the roads. lol But...this is south Texas....no one knows how to drive on ice!

Unfortunately, Blue.. most people up here don't know how to drive on it either. I notice tho, that the majority of vehicles off the road in weather like that, are the fancy 4WD's.

You are safe? How much more nasty stuff do you have coming?

Hey, I take exception to the 4WD comment. I'll have you know that I drive a very large SUV--after all, I need to compensate. :)

Well, I thought so too. It all happened a few years back

~wavy scene...flashback~

I said "Bend over baby, I'm drivin'." To which she replied, "With that little thing?" and then she laughed at me. Not being one to like being ridiculed nor liking being chaufeurred, I immediately went to the nearest car lot and purchased a bigger automobile. She still laughed at me. So I keep getting bigger ones until she lets me drive.
Go figure.

Well, at least you can be sure of the car starting. It's terribly awkward when you're all ready to drive, and the car won't start.

Well, since we don't have it very often down here....what would those better things be, hmmm?????

Yeah, I'm safe. thanks. Hubby drove me out on an errand I had to do today, but the majority of the ice on the roads was gone by then.

We heard on the radio about even the 4-wheel drives being off the roads today.

*insert song "Slip Slidin' Away" here*

Bash, Bash, Bash.....I may just have to go to VA and check this out for myself (and I don't mean your SUV)

Ya know, hon, I hear enough about this so-called deficiency of yours on the "Disappointments" thread. Don't give me that baloney here, too. I don't believe a word of it.

All 4wd means is you get to go off further and get stuck deeper.

The majority of accidents I see in bad weather, here, seem to be because some damn fool in an SUV thinks that because they have 4wd the laws of physics are suspended.

Somehow we managed to drive in bad winters for years with just snow tires, maybe a limited slip differential and a thing called "common sense". How could we have been so foolish?

Beggin' your pardon, but what's wrong with getting off further and going deeper? :D

Bash, I parked alongside a Ford Excursion today. That sumbitch should have it's own zipcode

it's the getting stuck part that presents the problems...<wink>

I agree. Personally myself...I think it's quite funny when this big old SUV flies past my itty bitty car, then in a few miles I see the same SUV in the ditch. As I pass them,I wave, while using my cell phone to call them a tow truck!!
Do they think that 4WD means invincible?

Its okay, Dalt. You need not feel inadequate...size isn't everything.

Well, I haven't been in chat since I've been on the boards. Do I have to be in chat to come across you?
I don't think that's a rule... I'm sure if I get it wrong someone will correct me.

I think it was Maria Muldaur who sang...

"It ain't the meat, it's the motion..."

Wait, are we still talking about cars?

This just proves that's it's not the size nor the power...it's how you use it!
