~ Closed for myself and LissomeYen ~
The divorce had been finalized and Chris Canaan was newly single. Thanks to the prenup that they had both signed, the circumstances of the divorce meant that he only had to pay very little in alimony. She had broken the agreement, broken his trust, and therefor he wasn't obligated to give her half of his assets, as would otherwise likely have been the case.
Being the owner of Cardinality Systems, Chris had a great deal of money. Sure, he wasn't Google, but the software his company produced was behind a lot of successful companies, and they paid accordingly. There was no shortage of women that would jump at the chance to be with him, but he wasn't willing to risk another relationship like that again. He didn't want a gold digger. Sure, a young, sexy trophy wife would be exactly what he was looking for, but the type of women who normally fit that role were usually just there for as long as the money and gifts came their way. As soon as they thought they could get a better deal elsewhere, they were elsewhere themselves.
Chris was thinking about all this while he was waiting for one of his oldest friends to meet him for lunch. They had gone to college together and always kept in touch. He was Chris' Best Man at his wedding. But while they had always been close, even after they graduated, they had gone very different directions. His friend had settled down, had a family, and made a respectable living, while Chris had gone for Greatness.
