In light of the OP's update, does it change anyone's view of the original question?
If his wife had gotten implants before the other surgeries would that not have made detecting any sort of lump or tumor much more difficult? If so, she would have been putting her life at risk to change her appearance.
Also, if she had learned what she did after having gotten cosmetic surgery then all of the pain of it would have been for just the short time between that first surgery and the discovery. Afterwards she would have had to go through even more, possibly worse pain.
Having read most of the entries here I've seen many very well thought out ideas as well as many that made me shake my head. This is not a subject that I have a firm idea about. Generally it's too dependent on circumstance and individuals.
By and large I suppose I'm not much in favor of artificially changing our bodies in ways that carries such great risk. If it is purely for her then a wife risking her life to change her appearance is a little selfish when she has a husband who loves her (entirely MY OPINION a generalization.) It is true for the same reason it would be selfish of a husband to ask it of a wife who has no desire to change.
I only wonder if anyone would like to revisit the advice they offered in light of the new information.
