Will Trump succeed where Obama failed in curbing gun violence?

If you're squirrel hunting its a squirrel gun
if you're deer hunting its a deer rifle

if you're assaulting school kids...well....guess what

What if it's just sitting in a gun safe? Is it then an "investment gun?" We do not label a gun by what its used for. It's just as silly as saying any gun is a target gun if the only place you shoot is the range.

Wouldn't that be a form of discrimination? :D

Makes me wonder, if I use my hammer to ply a screw from the wall, is it then deemed to be a screw-hammer?

Will Trump succeed?

It is more likely that a Republican President could get changes about guns approved than a Democrat. Any proposals are likely to be more reasonable and nuanced than anything proposed by the Democrat Party.

Whether any proposals would actually stop school shootings?

That's another question.
Total bans on guns worked just fine in your home country.

We might have to call it Schrödinger's hammer. If I use my AR to beat someone's head to shut him up, is it then a club-rifle?

If he chooses to. He's proven he can bully the rest of the GOP into voting his way.

Even though he's getting zero credit for it-no surprise-trying to ban the bump kit is a step in the right direction.

I'd love to see him come up with something good not just because it would make things safer, but to see the Dems have to vote for it(or look like hypocrites) and then acknowledge he did something they approve of.

Its sad to say, but I think the average dem would rather him do nothing because its more important to be able to keep blaming him than it is to save lives they couldn't care less about at the end of the day.
A male feminist and a MAGA Trumpanzee. You got the worst parts of your parents' DNA.

Only gun sales by dealers at gun shows require background checks, and an FFL to be held by the dealer.
Other gun sales at gun shows do not. That's the "loophole" people are referring to.

You cannot police individual transactions. So, go ahead, fight to close that loophole and see if it make's one little bit of difference in the world. Instead of focusing on gun shows and the NRA, you people should join the sane world and focus on the failure of your last great idea, the gun-free school zone.

First of all virtually all vendors dealing in firearms at those shows have an FFL. Secondly there is ALWAYS a BATFE and State law enforcement presence at those shows, undercover and the people setting up tables at those shows know it.

So if anyone wanted to close the "gun show loophole" all that would be required is for the state, or the feds, to pass a law requiring that all vendors at such shows that offer firearms for sale have a FFL. It's just that simple.

Exactly. The production, distribution, and possession of firearms in USA cannot be controlled, policed, banned, none of that. Attempts to do so cannot work. Talk of bans, or of background checks, are futile. Laws will not prevent people from illegally trafficking firearms.

What CAN be controlled, imperfectly but with some noticeable effect, is the presence of firearms in public. That's why I insist on enforcing ALL of the 2nd Amendment. Enroll in the paramilitary "well-regulated militia" if you want to carry in public, under strict conditions. Otherwise stay home and shoot rats.

Since an AR-15 was used by an NRA instructor to "assault" a mass-shooter, does that mean the AR-15 is "Shooter of Mass-Shooters" rifle, for it's ability to shoot mass-shooters?

Are you having a stroke? You keep repeating the same thing that's been repeatedly refuted, including by SCOTUS.

Are you merely disoriented and lost? Did you mean to post this alternate reality story idea in the story idea section?

Everyone, including the NRA, realizes the need to do something about the mentally ill obtaining, or possessing, firearms. But actually doing something about it that will pass constitutional muster is an entirely different matter. This is a situation where the 2nd amendment runs head on into the 4th, 5th, and 6th.

What degree of mental illness is the bar to strip someone of their constitutional rights? And if the government can do so in one instance, what's to bar them from doing it in another instance, such as voting?

How are these determinations to be made, by whom, and who's going to write the regulatory guidelines? The vast majority of people out there undergoing mental health counseling are NOT a danger to themselves or others. If they are to be swept up in any resulting regulations that strip them of their rights I'd see that as a huge disincentive for those people to seek help to begin with.

So while I applaud the effort, as always the devil's in the details.

Other countries mental health rates are the same as ours and they don't have mass shootings on the level we do. Meanwhile, Trump signed a bill that struck down an Obama regulation last year that removed thousands with mental illness from the list that would have prevented them from buying guns.

Stop with the red herrings.
