I was touched by the Canadian dancers. But why do they give the medal winners in Canada broccoli? I mean I like broccoli but why? Must be a Canadian thing.

Guilty confession: I watched Joannie Rochette skate tonight. What a feat. She deserved the standing ovation. Kudos to her. I'm sure her mother would have been proud.

That was an impressive performance. She really did beautifully.

Umm...I cried my eyes out. That was so totally moving and now she's THIRD!

Especially considering the circumstances, eh?

Very much so. Worth watching.

In other news, it looks like US and Canada in Women's Hockey. If it does not get serious coverage, I will be wroth.

Dude, you don't know German. No german ever has over achieved. Occasionally you may get one or two who do about adequate, but over achieved, never.

Just looking at that medal count versus the size of the country, especially the one from Torino.

As to the rest of it, you are making a funny. :p

Well, this sucks...

http://nos.nl/os2010/artikel/139284-foute-wissel-sven-kramer-goud-lee.html

Sven Kramer's coach, Gerard Kemkers, told his pupil while skating for gold to wrongly change lanes, thus getting him disqualified. Ok, Bob de Jong still won bronze, but that doesn't make it suck any less...
That was a hell of a mistake, no question.

Still, when I watched this video, what shocked me most was the way Kramer treated his coach.

This must be the difference between a solo sport (in which the athlete's focus is "me, me, me"), and a coach-driven team sport, which is an "us."

I see too many incidents of poor sportsmanship in pro sports these days. I mean rivalry is one thing, temper tantrums and whining quite another.

I know many people find mixed martial arts too violent but, almost without fail, no matter how bloody the battle, the opponents behave like good sports afterward, showing appropriate respect to each other, win or lose.

Agreed, but unfortunately these days it's not just the pros.

My niece and nephew are both athletes. I've been to baseball and football games, and cross country meets, where the behavior of some kids - not to mention coaches and parents - is downright appalling.

Agreed - getting in the ref's face and throwing a fit is NOT the way to teach your child to lose graciously. At a young age, sports are as much about social skills as athletics, and parents make the focus on WINNING much more than it should be. If a kid learns to shake hands after a match is over, that's the real win.

Canada - US in Men's Hockey final as well.

Excited? Yep, just a bit.

The true test of Canadian politeness and forgiveness will be Ryan Kesler. After Kesler scoring the last goal in the first US-Canada game, if the Vancouver Canuck fans don't kill him when he goes back to his position as center and alternate captain, they are truly polite.

And if the US wins, and they don't kill him? Wow, they're saints.

I'm torn on this matter. On the one hand, I love Canada, I love the Canadian people and I love the Canadian national team. On the other hand, America has Phil Kessel, easily the best player in the Toronto squad and the closest thing we have to an elite forward. Hooboy.

I'm not torn in the slightest. We are going to see one helluva game regardless of which team wins.

You've got a lot of company, with that type of confusion. See, for example, this.

Canada in the Olympics loud and proud! And we finally have a great reason to do it.

This game is amazing. This is how the Winter Olympics should end, wow.

I don't care who wins. This game is that good.

ETA: LOL, right after I posted Canada slapped it in for the win.

Good on ya, Team Canada. I have a huge smile on my face for y'all.
