Winter Holiday 2010 Contest Support Thread

Here is next years schedule, as posted by Laurel.

2011 Contest Schedule

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

2011 Contest Schedule

Here's the contest list for 2011 - looking much like 2010! This schedule seems to be working so far. That said, we may change dates throughout the year, though we won't change contest deadlines in the midst of the contest. Please do check back when a contest approaches to verify all deadlines.

As always, these contests are held in addition to the regular monthly contests. The "starts" date is the date you can begin submitting. The "closes" date is the very last day you can submit. (So long as your story is submitted on the "closes" date, your story will be counted in the contest, even if the story isn't posted that day.)

PLEASE NOTE: DO read ALL contest rules. We had many cases of authors not putting the proper phrase in the NOTES field, which meant that we couldn't find their submission and thus they were not entered in contests. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do read the special contest announcements when they are posted (usually around two weeks before the contest start).

Full contest rules can be found here.

Thanks, and have a great year!

Last Place Contest

Rules for Last Place contest.
****

Order for coming last:

Lowest voted rating for a genuine attempt at a story multiplied by number of votes if less than 25 divided by 25.

So - if rating is 3.00 but only 12 votes the score would be

3.00 x 12 / 25 = 1.44

If rating is 3.00 but more than 25 votes, the rating stays the same.

I suggest ignoring number of reads except as a tie breaker when least number of reads would *win*.
****

Since the 'winner' actually wins nothing, it is pointless to cheat. To enter, all you have to do is declare your rating and votes at the time the real contest is decided.
Participation is entirely voluntary.

Og is banned from entry for life because he finds coming last too easy and is a past multiple winner of last places.

For the last place contest, 1 votes are very valuable and 5s are bombs.

Og (whose decision is final unless you all gang up on me)

Oops!

I am surprised with the result of the final sweep.

All three of my entries were nowhere near an H for most of the voting. Herd of Donkeys was the highest rated, but barely above the average for all contest entries.

I'm supposed to be the Last Place expert, not a contest winner.

Congratulations to the other winners, and thank you to everyone who entered, who read, and who voted.

You deserved it. Congrats.

And you're always a winner, even in last place.

Until the last sweep, all three of my entries were rated lower than those two Last Place claims above.

Now? Nativity Scene would be between them except that I'm not eligible for Last Place.

Congrats Ogg. It's nice to see a "feel good" piece win a contest. I find it curious that my "feel good" piece, "I Hate Christmas" came in at 4.05, and my poorly written couples-fooling-around story "Game Day Guacomole" got a 4.28. I almost didn't submit Guacomole - it was such a hack job - but after all the work I put into it, I figured what the hell....

I was hoping OneSilky would at least place. Perhaps L and M can create a new category: Erotica Utilizing Big Words You Have to Look Up in the Dictionary. If they did, OneSilky would be a shoo-in.

I could totally write in that category!!

Congrats to the winners. Well done everyone!

Didn't win but happy that at 4.75, 4.65 and 4.06 my stories seemed to be reasonably well received. Hope everyone else had a blast.

And now you all know why A.I.R. EXISTS!

COMMENT : I am a Chinese reader, I enjoy the writing and i can tell you in my country there are many people living under poverty line without access to basic living essentials. Some living in cities do not have access to good reading materials, especially when learning English.

so if you can help them or just get some contacts to help them make a difference in their lives, it is great.

COMMENT : A wonderful post and a wonderful practice! Similar efforst can be achieved through Heifer International!

I must say that I’ve seen some truly poor SPECIAL CONTEST winners in the past but this one may beat all!

A story with few readers, no “favorites”, 4 comments and a under “4” rating was somehow catapulted in the last hours into first place. Even the author professes to not understanding what happened (although PALACE sources have told me that his victory was planned and agreed to months ago). A tit for a tat apparently. Services rendered and all that.

No one in their right mind believes this story was the choice of the LITEROTICA reading public. The QUEEN simply decides who’s going to win and she fixes the result so they do. Quite frankly I find it hard to believe that the oggman has the gall to show his face around here.

And that’s why we need A.I.R....For honest results...

Scouries, those sour grapes must really be working on you. More like prunes from what i read above.

For all your blustering, strutting around, and proclaiming yourself the number one author on Lit. you just can't win a contest can you and it chaps your ass. There is no palace or any plot, except in your over bloated ego and mind. Learn to write and learn to write something other than incest and you too might win a contest other than your fake one.

Congrats to Ogg again for a job well done.

Wine is good but these sour grapes are for the birds or is that the birdbrain.

Congratulations to WickedWendyDru, Mugsby and especially Ogg!!

All three stories were incredible and very much deserve the distinction!

Way to go, Ogg!!! So happy for you!

And congratulations to all the contestants; the stories were wonderful across the board!

Congrats winners! :) :rose:

The hoover must've been hard at work...
My stories are now 4.75 and 4.67.. the highest they've been through the whole thing. How random lol.

Yay for all of us! :D

Congratulations to the Final Winners. All very well written stories, deserving of the honor. And about as diverse as it gets.

My story wasn't eligible, so I think it would be fair to say some of the trolls and one-bombers may have been lenient on me this time around.

Last sweep hit me again, for about 90 votes, didn't change the score much. Still don't know what the weirdness was in votes for this contest, I mean, I've been swept before, but never 60-70% of the votes. Probably had about 800 swept in total. Screwy. All those sweeps and my story never really moved in score - stayed between 4.90 and 4.87 the whole time, almost all of it at 4.88-4.89.

Score: 4.88 Votes: 622 Reads: 23337 Romance (English) 12/06/10

92 comments was a record for me, my previous high in the 60's so I'm quite glad about that.

Now that the syrupy sweet stuff is out of the system time to go back and write something I can be truly ashamed of! ;)

Congratulations to the winners!

I'm going to try to run a track, but I've had a rather trying evening. Alternator went out -- naturally happened when the whole family had just left for my niece's Christmas program, so I've been sitting at work for 3 1/2 hours waiting for someone to know that I was stranded *laugh*

Certainly won't be anything more than score + votes. I'll put up some final totals for favs and comments tomorrow, although they'll be skewed by post-contest stuff.

I ended up .04 above my fairly constant score and .02 above the highest I ever saw it. Had a really low sweep percentage of about 10%

Dark,

Take it easy. Glad you were rescued! Looking forward to seeing the results, but we'll all be patient. :)
