Any ideas on where you would like it to go next?

Would you have stood up and let Sophie be in control? Or would you have also changed that narrative?

On one side....there's a desire to see what she does next. There is a predictable direction, but knowing you there would be a twist coming. For instance, maybe she gets him to strip completely. Maybe she whispers in his ear about how much she wanted to drive him crazy. Maybe even, she has his sit down before stripping herself and stalking him like prey.

It felt like he was concerned about his job. It's also possible that she would whisper in his ear for him to relax because her father didn't make it home last night before she mentions that he took on his ex as a mistress.

Describe some of the research that links autism with mindreading abilities and explain the theoretical insights psychologists have gained from this research.

The term mind-reading can be associated with several different interpretations; in this case ‘mind- reading’, or theory of mind (ToM), relates to the ability humans have, to understand others as having separate beliefs, intentions and perceptions from our own (Hewson, 2021, p. 19). However, for some individuals, for example those diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), the ability to mind-read does not come easily, especially when engaging with others not on the spectrum (The Open University, 2025). This has led psychologists to investigate how ToM might develop differently with those on the autistic spectrum and has become key in research regarding autism. This essay will explore key studies beginning with Baron- Cohen et al’s (1985) Sally-Anne task, then moving on to more modern studies which have helped shape the way autism is viewed and understood. Theoretical insights, which have been supported by results from these studies, are also discussed.
During the 1970s and 80s psychologists began researching autism through cognitive studies and as they focused more on thinking, cognitive explanations became more accepted. (Rajendran and Mitchell, 2007, cited in Hewson et al., 2025, Week 4, Section 3.4.3). This helped to create the basis for research such as Baron-Cohen et al.’s use of false-belief tasks, or unexpected transfer tasks, to investigate ToM (Baron-Cohen et al., 1985, cited in Hewson et al., 2025, Week 4, Section 8.1).
