wood art

A different planet

What you've share is extraordinary. Not something a mere mortal could do.

But, who is 'H?'

they are fabulous, aren't they? i'd love to be wandering amongst all our trees and come across art like this

H=HarryHill, my husband. he's an artist as well as a writer and carves pretty damned good *nods*

I'm beginning to carve wooden spoons. Thought they's make a nice Xmas gift.

Are you an artist as well?

poet, but enjoy drawing/painting/sculpting/making things as and when time permits. which isn't that often. my art is only novice-level but, like my pool game, gets better with regular application :)

someone showed me this link today. i knew others would like to see it.

feel free to share any you have, and it doesn't have to be limited to wood... i just have a real affinity to wood.

Those are very excellent. I’m amazed by super creative people. Like the ones who do those artists who draw perspective drawings on streets and the ones who carve up books into amazing pieces. Many others...

Sam Maloof

Another example of innovative design using wood is Sam Maloof. Here' one of his rocking chairs:

Maloof's home is in the background. Interesting side bar, when a freeway was going to go through Maloof's property, the State of California declared his home a historic site and moved it out of harms way

Ha, I made a sort of cool artsy tree stump table back in my college days.

I'm a big fan of George Nakashim.

Nakashim was one of the artist that started featuring a live edge in his designs. One such design is:

that chair... looks so organic, and comfortable! thanks for posting those :)

The spousal unit is a woodworker. It’s often like the cobbler’s kids though.

looks like a Joel White design. Slender entry.

Aren't you up in Alaska? Wouldn't you want / need a my robust boat?

It's not a practical craft where I live. Might be fine in SE Alaska. Nat Herreshoff is the designer. Would be a fun daysailer. Maybe if I lived in Homer? Or Seldovia.

And Joel White based his Haven 12 1/2 on this boat. The Haven is a centerboard version.
