The reason Belgium is better than the USA is because of competition: Europe is made up of many smaller countries all competing against each other in a ruthless and on-going dog-eat-dog contest and so, over many decades, it has built up an astonishing level of expertise and tactical acumen and youth training. Western Europe is the global center of football excellence. And Belgium is at the heart of Western Europe.

Yes, it's totally terrible that the President is a sports fan and has all the same rights as every other sports fan to dis on the refs and complain about how the rules favor one team instead of being equal.

We should limit who can support their team to the super fans who only wear team sponsored sportswear/clothes and the regular drunks down at the sports bar. That way the rest of us don't have to be bothered by whiners who complain about how the sports world is going to hell because someone they have a hate-on against spoke up about his favorite team.

I used to envy the US. But having visited both the US and more recently China. I know who has been the most welcoming, tolerant and technologically advanced. And it's not the home of the hotdog that is the winner.
But at least the USA had a team that made it to the tournament. Even though they paid to get their by hosting the event.

We don't suck at soccer. We're mid to upper tier. Belgium is top 10. Our country does need a bigger push at the sport before we improve.
