Writing Advice

I can only do so much writing in one go. If I have the time and want to spend more of it writing, taking a break and going for a walk can be a good way to get over that hump. But sometimes you just have to be okay with whatever output you can manage. 2000 words is a pretty good day, as far as I'm concerned.

It's nice to finish things, but if I write impatiently, eager to get to the end of a project and move on to the next, that shows in my writing.

Take your time, write when you can, know your pace and your limits. In my experience, the more I work within those bounds rather than try to stretch them, the better the result.

2K words is a large effort. I have done it only a few times. My goal is to get between 500 and 1000 words if I can

I have a way of dealing with this that is definitely not for everybody.

First of all, since this is all fun for free, and it's not a job, I put no pressure on myself to write. If I don't feel like writing, I don't write.

Second, I have dozens of started but unfinished stories, so if one isn't working for me, I just switch to another. Like I said, this may not work for everybody, and I can't say I recommend starting and not finishing lots of stories just so you have this as an option.
