Writing for conflicting fandoms

Yes, if you have two differing story types then you will get down votes. If there are strong females in one set of stories and another set of stories with women just there to be used for sex then you will get people not happy with whatever. Does not matter how it is tagged.
My stories are (for the lack of a better term) primarily strokers. I like to tell an interesting tale within that framework, but I've accepted the idea that for the time being, those are the only stories my schedule will allow.

That said, almost all of the characters are "used for sex" because of the nature of the medium. I try to make them all as complex as possible, but the question is always "Who is getting used?"

Sometimes men get used for sex, and sometimes women.

However, I feel like many fans will only accept one type or the other.

You have a clear understanding of the landscape and of how it interacts with your (time) limitations so I'd frame any conflicting self criticisms accordingly.

Of the forms, stroke best rolls out the red carpet for inhabiting the MCs so your authorly want for more dynamics (totally valid motivational tool) conflicts with the nature of the form a bit.

As the God(ess) running stage direction of all parts, your titillation can come from the whole movement and symphony of it all where some readers may be looking for a entrance ramp to drop themselves in the middle of the fray. (and you do write lovely but oft "fray" my dear. 😜 )

Neither want is more valid than the other, just the nature of creativity in general.

To my mind, ties go to the maker so give yourself an earned pass by not worrying to much about voting bloc conflicts.

I did take a look at your submissions list, and you've got some favorable comments mixed in with the complaints. At least you're not being ignored (no comments), which is painful in its own way. And the scores are almost all quite good. (I define above a 4.00 as good.) So I'd say you're doing well for your first two months
Thanks, and yes, I am grateful that quite a few comments are favorable. And I've only deleted a couple of them :) (Pissed off one anon commenter for deleting his posts suggesting I sell my character's body into drug filled prostitution...) And yes, I'm pleased that all but 1 of my stories are sitting at 4 or higher, with the 1 being a non-human story that appears to have gone down unfavorably with the werewolf crowd.

Writer's gotta write... :)

I've written 120 or so chapters/stories across (at last count) eighteen categories, all as EB66, and never once have I received a moan from someone saying, "Oh, I don't like that, I'm gonna score you down because you've upset me."

Wait, I do have one chapter with incest gay male, where the son bangs the father with mother and sister on each other, which for some odd reason is my lowest rated chapter. Too much? In Erotic Horror, no less, you'd think they could cope, but it appears you can triple squick if you try.

Readers might score me down, but if they do, they don't feel a need to tell me - and since 80% of my story file is Red H, other readers easily out-number the negatives.

I suspect the squick factor happens more to writers who become known within a single category for writing whatever content they write, and those category readers get easily squicked, or I write content that's inoffensive to most readers (setting aside my gem, noted above).

Or I'm writing for adults who don't act like spoilt children. I don't know, but I don't have the problem. I'd never bother with an alt - you're starting from scratch, and in a way, competing with yourself.

My thought is, if you write within a fairly tight niche, you get readers who have niche expectations, and how double dare you if you go outside their parameters. But if you're outside their parameters to start off with, it's not a problem. I don't cater for reader's whims, but I do expect them to cater for mine. It seems to work.

I usually don't delete a comment unless it seems completely irrelevant. That's not a big sample size, but I don't remember anyone complaining about being deleted. But then, I don't know what kind of attention spans some of these readers have.

It's probably a good idea to respond to favorable comments as you did, even if it's just to say thanks. These may or may not be read by the person. It seems very rare for someone to continue a "conversation" in comments.

Responding to criticism: I've done that once in a while but again, it's rare for them to get back to the author. I can remember that happening only once.

So as many of you already know, I primarily write very unrealistic hetro NC/R, (mostly resistance, I suppose) and I write both dominant females and males.

I have come to the conclusion that perhaps my maledom followers have been dissatisfied with my femdom stories, and vice versa. I think perhaps the two camps are low-scoring the other's stories, to encourage me to write their instead.

Does anyone else write to two (or more) commonly differing groups, and suspect that your overall scores probably suffer done as your followers downvote what they dislike and up vote only what they like...?

For the record, I love both, and will continue to write both because I consider it enjoyable. Scores matter to me, but so does having fun.
I'm not sure this fits... However there is a connecting thread....
I write in different categories. So far I have posted stories in Lesbian, TS, Mature, Romance and loving wives...
The only one where I meet stern resistance is LW....Within the category there is a warring faction... There are the BTB crowd and The non BTB crowd...
Recently I posted a rather long story in LW... It was 16 Lit pages. even for a speed reader it would've taken an hour or so...
Within 10 minutes of posting it had already attracted close to 100 votes, and 10 comments...
All negative.
LOL, it didn't worry me this isn't me venting, merely offering my thoughts. I think there are a small vocal group who follow me. The reason... So they can jump on and down vote anything I post. Because they hate my LW stories. I think they vote on my stories in other categories as well
Their reasoning I'm sure is to punish me for writing stories in what they see as "Their category."
So yes, I think if what you post doesn't fit with their views. You will get down votes...
I did like what you said about the reason you write...
So long as we remember that is why we do it, you can still swim in the pleasure of writing what you want to write...

Ignore the naysayers. Extract all the pleasure you can from writing..

You are 100% right about LW.

Right after posting this, I did remember the dichotomy of LW, which is one reason I've never posted there with this account.

But yeah, none of my stories have ever really gotten panned... but they occasionally don't do as well as I expect, and I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience.

I think we all suffer from the haters.
All we can do is ignore them.
Have a laugh at their ridiculous comments and move on...
Keep writing, enjoy it. Bask in the knowledge there are people who enjoy what you write.

in principle, using alt-accounts seems like a good way of tackling this sort of thing; but in practice, I find it sounds exhausting

Anybody who creates anything (writing, painting, acting, film-making, etc.), good, bad, or mediocre, is going to collect haters if they put it out before the "public." That's perhaps a valuable thing to learn on Lit. Surely, the "professionals" (who I define as getting some money for it) mostly understand that quite well.

My advice is to carefully consider how to merge the various components of your projects. As a fanfic writer, I once wrote about Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. I am more a fan of Katie than Tom. His movies have been great more often than not, but his personality leaves much to be desired imo. Katie meanwhile excites me with both her acting and her personality along with her physical attributes. So when she got with Tom IRL, like many fans I had issues with that. 🤣 Can you blame me for writing a story that features them in an open marriage where Katie cheats on Tom but ultimately returns to him (before their eventual divorce of course)? I think not. Naturally, to avoid the attention of trolls more into Tom than I am, and because I don’t completely loathe the guy, I didn’t portray him as a bad person in the story either. Just a narcissist making mistakes.

Why do people give you one star instead of just walking away? If it's not your cup of tea move along, dudes.

All cuckolding stories (which I write a lot of) have at least two types of followers, sometimes more. I don't put them in LWs just to keep the trolls away, but still, they find me. Not sure there is a solution to the problem for either of us. I hope that's so very helpful for you! But I know it isn't.
