Bastard
I saw her in the sewers, sitting on the stone floor wth her legs drawn up against her chest. I'd entered closer to town than before, and had a decent walk until I reached the others. I saw her as I reached what I guessed was the halfway point. She looked familiar, and I could tell by the ash and dirt on her clothes that she'd been at the academy.
"You alright?" I asked.
She started at the sound of my voice, then tightened her expression and stared at me as if I intended her harm.
"i'm not here to hurt you...I just wanted to know if you were alright."
She didn't seem to hear me, but stared still. I was about to repeat myself when she nodded almost frantically, her face appearing scared in the pale lighting that was down here, appearing like emergency lighting, small blue rectangled tucked away in corners here and there along the tunnel. SHe looked familiar...like someone I'd seen here and there but never really noted...well, consciously noted anyway, which surprised me, as she was quite a beauty.
Must have seen her around the mansion, I thought. It made sense. She was ovbviosly a student, having been at the fire and winding up down here, it was the only explanation.
"C'mon," I said, offering her my free hand. "Some of us have gathered up ahead. You're not alone in this."
I tried to sound comforting, but the truth was, I felt alone in this.
SHe took it, but warily, and as we walked, she stayed her distance and kept her arms crossed over her chest and her head low.
"I'm Kane, by the way, Kane Posh, but everybody calls me Bastard. You?"
SHe was quiet for a moment, then in a soft voice, she said, "Dahlia Silverstedt...but um...Divine is what they called me at...the school."
