You won’t like this….just sayin’

I'm going to say this again - the stock market tanked and just recovered in the last week into positive territory. Touting record highs while ignoring record losses is absurd and misrepresenting the market.

A good market would've been hitting record highs every day this year.
It’s up 11% for the year now….and climbing higher.

I can’t believe you’re still fighting this market

78k manufacturing jobs lost YTD.
That means we’ll be getting a bigger rate cut….and the market will go even higher. You’ve fought this uptrend for so long now. You’ll be the one buying into the euphoria at the very end right before the correction

I haven't fought anything.
I won't be buying into made up shit.

Apparently you don't care about manufacturing jobs.

Epiphany… I’m not a big Trump fan but to me it’s obvious what is going on…

So everyone is scared about tariffs. The average American is worried about their avocado or their coffee or their T-shirt costing more money. But you know what, the people that make those avocados and that coffee and that T-shirt are scared shitless right now. They are literally shitting their pants. This is a game of , my dick is bigger than yours. Trump knows that our economy is the biggest consumer economy that exists. Without us they don’t exist. When we are worried about prices of things, the people that make those things are terrified that they won’t have a business or a life, period!! They’re done!!! They know people won’t buy their shit if it’s too high. The average American will find an alternative product. The company in another country will call there Authority (that they pay money to) and beg them to go to the table with Trump to make this go away. They know the endgame is that they will go out of business if they don’t negotiate. This is why the United States has the upper hand and Trump knows it. America is the consumer of the world!! He’s using leverage and our dominance. That’s his game! He knows they will cave. They have no choice. There is no other way. Bargain and negotiate or you’re done. Period!!
This is silly. Trump doesn't want to "negotiate" with these countries. He wants to "bring jobs back home." He wants Americans to be, you know, growing their own coffee. He doesn't want Americans to buy stuff from other countries because that's somehow bad for America.

So Trump's all "Fuck you, we can get along without your coffee or your rare earth metals."

Then he finds out coffee isn't grown much in the states (Kona from Hawai'i, maybe) and the Chinese can retaliate over the rare earths, so, you know, TACO.

Trump Is Making China Great Again

America’s friends and trading partners are running into the arms of our adversaries. What a mess.

Catherine Rampell Jan 17, 2026

SOMEONE ALERT the Norwegian Nobel Committee: Against the odds, Donald Trump has succeeded in peacefully uniting the world.

Unfortunately, the world has been united against us.

This Pax (Ex) Americana era was illustrated Friday, as Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney wrapped up a trip to China. This wasn’t just any old visit, either: It marked the first time a Canadian PM had been to the world’s second-largest economy since 2017—and based on the glamorous video Carney’s team released, it was a smashing success for Beijing.

Carney and Chinese President Xi Jinping unveiled a “new strategic partnership” between the two countries. Among the key planks of this agreement, China will reduce tariffs on Canadian canola seed, peas, and lobsters. It will also allow visa-free travel for Canadians, who are apparently eager for new tourism destinations. Canada, in turn, will allow 49,000 Chinese electric vehicles into its market at lower tariff rates.

Why is this a big deal? Because the U.S. government had been trying to contain China’s global economic influence. It had been trying to expand U.S. exports. And it had been working to prevent inexpensive Chinese EVs from blowing up the U.S. auto industry. But after a year of bullying, insulting, and threatening to invade our polite northern neighbor, we undermined all those objectives and drove a close friend into the arms of an adversary. After all, Trump declared just this week that Americans “don’t need” any products from Canada, even though the country is our second-largest trading partner. . . .

In short, Trump’s big bet that countries would ultimately determine that they simply can’t live without America’s markets, and thus would cave to his every whim, was dangerously wrong. Instead, Carney’s Beijing visit shows just how much Trump has done to make China great again. In recent weeks and months, China has advanced or rekindled relationships with many of our allies, hosting a parade of foreign leaders. . . .

Irreparable harm. If this mess can be undone, trust has been destroyed and the impact will be felt for quite awhile. Trump, bessent, lutnick and the rest ignore or fail to understand competitive and comparative advantage. Seems more like planned ignorance to help a select few.

The Republicans still prove they’re incapable of governing. We’re defeating ICE one city at a time. Can we count on you to help us?
Everytime we talk, I feel like I’m on an episode of Star Wars. What am I gonna help with? I’m assuming you’re part of the resistance and the republicans are the dark side right? It’s been a while since I’ve seen Star Wars

I’m just curious, what exactly has been harmed? What has changed drastically? I can’t really name one thing that’s changed

It is their TDS stronger than the force. They have no idea what has changed because their news source does not discuss it.

I’ve been hearing the China fear mongering my whole life. “China is gonna take over!!!”. Blah blah blah.

China isn’t that strong. Their economy sucks because they’re communists and just take the profits so not many companies want to do business there. They steal copyright info from companies who do want to produce there. They print money and build ghost cities no one lives in just to keep people employed. Then they tear the cities down. They’re not financially strong and they don’t typically fight wars or venture out of their country. The last time they used their military was 1979 and they went into Vietnam for like a month or something.

All previously understood standards of acceptable political conduct.
True, Trump definitely is a dick when it comes to politics. He’s rude as hell and doesn’t do the normal respectable politician thing. That’s definitely one thing that changed.

I’m just curious, what exactly has been harmed? What has changed drastically? I can’t really name one thing that’s changed
Depends on perspectives and where one sits on the political spectrum. If you see that today's domestic situation is normal, that is your perspective. Many americans dont. Small businesses and the average American saw an increase in living expenses hence the K economic recovery. Old adversaries are getting preferential trade treatment while allies are being tariffed, see Russia at the lowest tariff rate. Perspective. And the TDS comment is just another rw refrain.

The secret police are kidnapping people and shooting them dead in the street. You can help with documenting ICE’s crimes and vilifying and shaming them. They can’t shoot all of us.

And ICE is out of control.
Aren’t they just trying to get illegal immigrants out of the country? You can’t go to any country in the world and just live there if you want to without going through a process of entering legally. America isn’t any different right?

How else would you handle it? I honestly wouldn’t like to know your opinion.

Even the billionaires who bribed Trump with his new ballroom are going to get screwed if the world economy and supply chains get gummed up. The only people getting something are Trump and his fellow grifters.

Plus, they got whipped by the Vietnamese!

On the other hand, if Donald Trump sets the USA on a course of decline, with trade networks shifting away, fewer immigrants to work on construction sites or farms (immigrant workers) or bring their talents to universities and corporations (immigrant scientists and businessmen), ballooning government debt, an unstable currency (fire the fed chairman!), fossil fuels instead of clean energy, a shrinking population, deteriorating quality of life (the US is about to lose its status as being a place where measles has been eradicated), increasing wealth inequality, increasing ineptitude of the government bureaucracy (head of the Bureau of Labour Statistics fired for reporting statistics that displeased the Dear Orange Leader) . . .

. . . then China will take over leadership of the planet by default.
