Iron Maiden

in was 1985, in San Diego, i was just out of bootcamp, we went to see my favorite band Iron Maiden, Twisted Sister open for them, but did they suck, the place wasnt even half full when they played, place got packed after them, i had a dead head on shot, from the nose bleed section, first time i got high also, seeing as everyone around me was lighting one up and passing it around, didnt smoke it, but i sure did inhale enough of it :D

I never did the "big hair" metal thing. I think I went straght from The Who into punk/ska beats.

Social Distortion, Clash, Rancid, Ramones...

But I do remember the "Eddie" Iron maiden t-shirts were pretty much 80's high school issued clothing (along with that levis jacket.

.

nice to see this thread taking off a bit. I hope people will check back.... some of your posts have inspired comments and/or questions that I'll be asking. unfortunately I have to get back to bed and can't do it right now.

if I ask something and don't get a response, I guess that will give me an excuse to send some PM's. ;)

anyway, keep it going. gnight....

LMAO...

I won a Twisted Sister album that I never listened too...

Just packed it up for a move... I wonder how many years it will take it to be worth something.

With my parents. Completely uncool band. Most embarrassing experience of my life  And oddly, I can't get anyone to go to a concert with me now that I'm a big girl lol
ok... "completely uncool band" doesn't cut it. I want details, woman!!!

I'd go to a concert with you, as long as it didn't get you in trouble or get my ass kicked. lol.

giggling now just thinking about it....it was Kansas. I loved their song Dust in the Wind. I was in junior high. First time I ever saw anyone smoking pot...I was shocked....hehe

so what do you do when it gets to the three day long guitar solo at the end? ;)

1986...I was 17...saw Aerosmith and Ted Nugent. I don't even have words to explain what it was like ~ ;)

I just attended a Nugent concert last fall here in Ventura...

He has only improved with age!

It was my first time standing at the very front row...

If I had to give up all other music I'd give up everything but my Nugent collection.

My first concert was in 76, with my parents  , and it was Elvis. The man looked like someone had stuck a air hose up his ass and blew him up, but he could still belt out those songs.

My first REAL concert was January 1979, Senior in High School, it snowed so there was no school the next day, 5 of us girls packed in a jeep cherokee, 2 gallons of Mr. Boston's screwdriver and a case of Bud Light...and it was one of my favorite bands...Boston, with Sammy Hagar as the warm up. Plenty of drinks and smoke being passed around...my first time smoking weed, btw...and it was an AWESOME show! :catroar:

mkay... I was 14, and went to see the Bare Naked Ladies in Vancouver at the PNE with my girlfriends befor they where anybody. We spent the whole day at the PNE ( fair with rides and stuff) with the ladies. At the concert, one of the "ladies" dedicated a song to us... ah those where the days..

Okay I am officially jealous. I love them! :D

I have absolutely no long term memory, so I can't tell you dates (not even remotely the year, I guess, but the place I saw them opened in 1976, so let's say between then and 1980): the band was Chicago (I did some searches to see if I could find the date, but finding real info related to a band with the name of a City as its name is pretty impossible . . . ). Anyway, I was young, still in Jr. High (so that probably puts in 1980 or 1981), and I'm pretty sure I went with my older brothers and sister. Opening act was a comic. I had no idea what that was about, and it was awhile before I figured out that opening acts could be bands. That was a good thing; the comic before Chicago sucked big time.

The show was awesome. If you've not seen them, they have a huge sound, it just fills the place up, and they were right on it. They got panned in the local rag, er, newspaper because the mix was too bass heavy, but by this point I was already playing bass myself, so I loved it bottom heavy. The highs were there, but the ground was shaking even on the slow tunes. No drugs (still haven't done those, so it's damned annoying that I can't remember specifics of stuff like this; maybe drugs would help), no drinking, just music. And I still remember it to this day . . . "twenty-five or six to four . . . "

Not really a concert but it was a great time. I went to a fundraiser for Bill Bradley when he was running for the first time for the Senate. It was hosted by Paul Simon ( the singer, not the Senator). The original Not Ready For Prime Time Players: John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd as the Blues Brothers, Gilda Radner and Bill Murray( Ok, not an original). Patti Smith and there were others I can't remember. I was still in High School and not old enough to vote yet. :D

Rainbow
DeMontfort Hall Leicester
1979 or 1980 I think (about 15 or 16)

Got so hot and sweaty that when my friend took his t-shirt off in his dad's car it ripped in two!!!!!!

Bluegrass - 1971

I'll have to disagree with your premise that a show in a mall can't be a real concert. Mine was a Bluegrass concert in NorthPark mall in Dallas, circa 1971. (I come from a musical family, and they were professional acquaintances of My mom's) I got so carried away by their music, I aked if I could sing one (only cute little kids, or total babes can get away with this) They let Me get up with them and do Home on the Range...35 years, and 8 CD's later, I'm still entertaining. :)

Keep on pickin!

fair enough... let me rephrase it... I don't wanna consider seeing a way-past-their-prime gary lewis and the playboys at the city centre mart (see, it wasn't even a real mall ;)) in middletown, ohio as my first real concert. lol.
