Are you a lurker? Do you spend time reading, perhaps even messaging people but never really post? Or maybe you post a lot in one forum but lurk around in others?

I have to admit I'll read through a thread, which takes me to another thread, which takes me to someone's profile and suddenly an hour's gone by.

Fess up.... do you lurk?

Guilty. But only because I'm new and don't want to be a gatecrasher. Also, because I'm supposed to be working, so if I'm not posting, I'm really not here. Right?

I'm a part-time lurker :)

I post regularly on certain threads but I lurk a lot more on others where I would never join in. And yes, that leads me to get curious about people and rifle through profile details. I play the girl or boy game - I guess what gender I think someone is by their posts, and then read the profile to check!

Why have I never thought of that ? Thank you !

LOL - that's a good game! I've had a few surprises!

I wonder if posters are deliberate about having gender neutral profiles?

I think Some hedge their bets..
Which I find weird because I base who I talk to in their thread history and their profile ,,,
But then it's not up to me to say :)

I guess I do a bit of both. I have my daily check of threads I subscribe to, but when they are quiet I trawl new posts and see if there is one or two to dip into, like today and this one . Often depends on privacy and the device I am using, harder to write a lot on a phone!

As for profiles, I like the ideas so far, and I have had a lot of chat outside a forum but usually with someone who has filled in a fair bit of info, as I hope I have. Only occasionally do I properly lurk, as in watch but never ever post, feels kind of not right really! ;)

I think some people have fun with it :D

There are some that use obviously stock images of women in their avatar, but add that they are actually male in their profile. It reminds me of bands who request no blue M&Ms in their dressing room, just to make sure that the promoter actually reads what they ask for in their contract - maybe it's a test of the level of someone's interest in them :D

I'm the same as pete. About a 70/30 Lurk/Post ratio.

My Lurk/Speak ratio is much higher in real life though, people say it's a bit creepy.

I lurk everywhere on Lit but here. Here? I'm a blurter. I'm chatty by nature.

I lurked in this forum before I even joined. I like the way you all speak to each other, for the most part. A good mix of serious and fun. I feel comfortable here.

On my other boards (geeky and professional) I am a prolific poster.

Totally a lurker with a splattering of posts here and there. I can't ALWAYS be quiet.

I lurked for a very long time.
When I finally started posting my lurking ratio just keeps decreasing over time.
