Are you a lurker?

However, I am genuinely pleased to receive PMs from people when they are polite and conversational.
When I was here and not in invisible mode the number of random trolling hook up PMs I received just became too annoying. I wish it had not been so.

These days I still get quite a few PMs, but they are of the type generally as you describe. :rose:

^^^^ this :)

I too use invisible mode for the same reasons as Lally. However, I am genuinely pleased to receive PMs from people when they are polite and conversational.

Glad to hear, even if you are invisible it doesn't always prevent the odd ( I use the word advisedly!) poster trying it on. For a while I had an avatar that might have suggested I was female, and it was interesting what 'offers' I got if I was visible, especially if in some of the more kinky threads!

You have my understanding of your lurking invisibly!
:rose:

This made me spit my wine over my keyboard, I laughed so suddenly. A thought that has run thru my head a few times.
I do lurk a lot and some days never write a thing. Other days if my mood is right I can add quite a few comments.
I'd say I am about 80% lurker and 20% chatter.

Yeah, I'm about an 80/20 also.

I know this about you TC... you are always lurking after my posts, darling.

I appreciate the commiseration from men who have experienced random PM's when they had AV's or nic's that were gender neutral or might appear female.
Just because I am "invisible" when I am here, does not mean that I am unfriendly. However, I do have standards about who I chose to interact with. My energy and time is limited.
So far I have never turned off my PM's though I hold that option open, and my list of blocked users is rather short (I think 4 at the moment).

My lurking ratio has changed over time. Opposite of many, I used to post a lot. Now days, I lurk mostly. I was here back in the dark ages. When Lit was playful and fun. And it is still for many. But the vibe has changed for me. So I lurk a lot and post less and less lately. I enjoy playful, fun, intelligent, flirty and witty exchanges. But in so many of the threads I have frequented over the years, they have become dominated by drama and ugly competition for attention with some taken over by serial posters that dominate every conversation.

But here is the thing. Lit is a public site. People are free to post and turn it into any kind of community they want. Lit is not here to be my personal playroom. So if the vibe turns away from something that interests me, I will simply lurk or move on. It is what it is and it is always changing.

I will say the gender neutral AVs and profiles bother me somewhat which may seem somewhat hypocritical for someone with an 'incognito' nic. LOL. But as so many (women in particular) have said, profiles are one of the two insights available into who someone is. The other being posts. Lacking clarity in either only serves to confuse those that might be interested in you. Again, it is a free world here at Lit and on the internet...

Long way of saying I tend to lurk more than post these days...

Long way, indeed... Mr. Lurker!

I thought it would be mostly new folks saying they lurked.

It's interesting to see "old" folks lurking too.

Glad you unlurked and posted. :)

Guilty as charged and but doesn't beg for forgiveness from Cookiecat....Lurker at times:D

I think I looked at a grand total of two and a half threads before joining. I was astounded by the quality of what I read in terms of discussion and advice. I regret nothing.

As far as lurking goes, the times I am on are frequent but sporadic, so I don't really have much use for it. That and I usually only say something when I really feel it or when I'm just messing around in a game or joke thread so there's not really much call for any internal monologue. I just post things and hope they contribute/help in some way. If not, well that sucks as I try to be helpful, but I don't think anyone is going to kick down my door and take my birthday away for not being profound, so why worry.

I'm also not worried about getting PMed by random people either, I'm still new and the people that PMed me are some of the best conversations I've had in a while. I'm also a guy, so I can't fathom getting " hook up " PMs, though if I did... It would probably be spectacularly awkward and brief.

Several people have mentioned the quality of PM's they've received and that's fun to know.

Glad you have no regrets!

For someone who did and does a lot of lurking I find myself posting a lot here! A friendly forum, thanks. The PM stuff is interesting and I did get to the stage of turning them off for a while before I changed my AV to something very non-sexual - I work in conservation! A pic of something I like - helping you get a feel for me - was taken the wrong way, stockings and heels just brought me too many rude pms, weird but that's life

:)

I don't answer the PMs that say, "Mmmm, a banana!"

Why, yes. Yes it is.
