Georgia’s top court cancels extension for delayed ballots in Cobb County, siding with RNC

Georgia’s highest court on Monday ruled that thousands of Cobb County voters who received their ballots late will not have their votes immediately counted if their ballots are received by officials after Election Day, a decision that sided with national Republicans.

The Georgia Supreme Court said that those ballots, which Cobb County officials admitted they failed to ship out on time, must be set aside pending further litigation if they aren’t returned by Tuesday at 7 p.m., the deadline under existing state law and the time polls close in the state.

Man who had torch and flare gun arrested at Capitol Visitor Center, according to police​

A man was arrested on Tuesday at the US Capitol Visitor Center who “smelled like fuel, had a torch & a flare gun,” US Capitol Police said.
A law enforcement official told CNN the man was going through normal security screening and officers saw the flare gun and torch. The man also had two containers that, when USCP opened them, smelled like gasoline, the official said.

He was immediately placed in handcuffs and had a notebook he told the officers he wanted to get to Congress, the law enforcement official said.
“Our officers just arrested a man who was stopped during our screening process at the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC). The man smelled like fuel, had a torch & a flare gun,” USCP said in a statement.
The Capitol Visitor Center will be closed for the day.

Like a lot of things the right pushes for, it sounds like a good idea on the face of it. And like a lot of those things, the devil's in the details. Casting an absentee ballot in PA is a lot more convoluted than it really has to be, and it involves not just signing but also dating an envelope where you also had to sign a document that you mail with the envelope. So it's extremely easy to miss that you have to date the envelope when you've just done the same with the slip of paper that has to go with it - and even if you don't sign the envelope, as long as you did sign the other paper and they're together in another sealed envelope, it's patently obvious what the date was even if it's not actually written there.

In other words, the Republicans are trying to throw out a bunch of legitimate votes due to a completely harmless mistake.
