Day 29: A song from the 2010s

Staying in theme, back to Paul Simon. After decades of mediocre songs and pandering, in 2011 he went forward with a new producer, and backwards by writing all the songs around his guitar again. Old and new, playful and introspective, it was the best thing he had done in a very long time. This was the title track, which starts with a gumbo recipe.

"So Beautiful or So What," Paul Simon

Day 29: A song from the 10s

Clean and sober for about a year… full moon… volatile thoughts… temptation to relapse… needed to get out of the city… lovely drive down a gorgeous moonlit country road… intrusive and destructive thoughts persist… ‘this song’ came on… feeling of peace, calm… played it again… the music… forgiveness, understanding… played it again… those words… never too late for a fresh start… temporary tranquility… gratitude.

“Sleight of hand/ jump off the end/ into a clear lake/ no one around/
Just dragonflies/ fantasised/ no one gets hurt/ you’ve done nothing wrong/
Slide your hand/ jump off the end/ the water’s clear/ and innocent/
The water’s clear and innocent”

Day 23: A song with a 6 word title

I've spoken at length about Tobias Sammet, Edguy, and Avantasia in this thread. But, here I go again!

One of the greatest shames surrounding this band is from the album Ghostlights. The opening track and first single, Mystery of a Blood Red Rose was intended to have Meat Loaf as the lead singer. It was written for him, but for some reason he pulled out of the project and never explained why. My guess is health issues; 2016 saw him collapse on stage and go through several surgeries. But we'll never know. Rest in peace you beautiful man.

Nevertheless, Tobi does one hell of a job as lead on this track,
but one can definitely hear how it was written for Meat Loaf.

Avantasia - Mystery of a Blood Red Rose

I’ve been away for a bit. But going through the thread you pick great music that I love!
