Day 3: A lesser known song from a favorite artist
Is there such a thing as a "lesser known song" from the Rolling Stones, the Beatles, or the Greatful Dead?
Would "Highway 61" qualify as a "lesser known" Dylan song.

I settled on "Today" from the Jefferson Airplane

I love deep cuts. I am from the generation where we put on a vinyl album and let it play, and found gems. You have some albums that were all killer, no filler, and others that were ... less so. Like one good song and nine crappy ones. But when you hit? Oh yes.

This was never on Queen's greatest hit albums. It was only really popular in Japan, for obvious reasons: the chorus is in Japanese. But this is Freddie running his emotional range, from torch song to joyous. John's bass is sublime. That is not Freddie on the piano or harmonium, it is Brian May. I love this song. If you ever missed someone, this is the Queen song for you.

"Just close your pretty eyes, and you can be with me
Dream on..."

"Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together)," Queen

Day 3 lessees known song from a favorite artist

Im not actually much a deep cut guy. I tend to like particular albums and not dive too deep into anyone’s discography.

But I know a lot of Sisters and this is one of my favorite b-sides. It just makes me laugh.

Love this. Ever seen them live or heard their live stuff? Wicked sense of humor. I screamed loud when they kicked into Dolly Parton's greatest song.

The Jolene cover is also one of my favorites. I saw them for the first time on this last tour and it was fucking fantastic’. One of my favorite concerts ever. Despite some sound issues that made Andrew a little grumpy.

This was on ACDC’s only EP, which was made up of tracks previously only released in Oz.

Great riff, from the masters of great riffs.

I had no idea that this was an Australian only release until today 🤯
It's one of my faves. Great choice!!

Today's prompt felt like a perfect time to delve into a forgotten gem... my favourite Alice Cooper album (DaDa).
Although I have always felt a bit conflicted savouring this album so much, since the artist himself does not seem to enjoy recalling this extremely painful time in his life. Subjects that he often deals with quite tongue-in-cheek, such as confusion of identity/ wearing of masks/ sense of self, seem to get more of a sincere (if confusing) treatment during this unusual phase of his career, probably due in large part to his escalating substance abuse issues. For that reason, and in the absence of his typically canny exploitation of showbiz tropes, lines such as this consideration of his 'true' self through the eyes of his fake self feel surprisingly sad to me: "And after all these years, I've never heard him speak... I wonder what he thinks of me." And of course, I have no idea if I'm misinterpreting vast swaths of these lyrical themes, but knowing that many artists spiraling deeper into addiction begin to question how much of their creativity, writing, and fearless stage presence is 'them' and how much is the substance in question, I can't help but be struck by the sadness and uncertainty of these lines: "On a silver tray, I keep the master key... In every way, he depends on me."
Fascinating song, and album, from an artist who was a little bit too close to the edge at the time!

Simple sentiment speaks to me
I honestly enjoy this album. I won't name tracks out of respect for Rule 1, but there are cuts on here on my regular play list. He gets hell for this, but I understand what he was trying to do (and a movie that didn't get off the ground). It isn't as if other musicians hadn't created a different character for trying something else.

Day 4: A song from the most recent concert you went to

This is a bit of a cheat..... but hopefully allowed. Most recent concert I went to was one of my son's gigs. He's a jazz guitarist and he played this Kurt Rosenwinkel tune "Mr Hope". This is the original.....

With apologies to all out there who don't like Jazz.....
