🎵 Monthly Song Challenge 🎵

I remember singing it at the top of my lungs on the elementary playground.
Haha!! That reminds me of when I was about 9 or 10 and my parents would listen to The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas" soundtrack on repeat. We were hiking in the White Mountains one day when I belted out at the top of my lungs, 🎶 "Texas! Has a whorehouse in it!". 🎶
Needless to say, my parents were mortified.

Day 6: A song that mentions a time of day

B B King & Eric Clapton - Three O'clock Blues

Back to the drawing board for me.

Day 6: A song that mentions a time of day

Some more early 80's Swedish punk for all you lovely people! This song's about the ugly, shallow lives of the people in the capital. About the horrific class divisions and the futility of it all. "Vi river en stad, och bygger en ny", a plan to raze all this shit to the ground and rebuild the city anew on top of the ruins. It's all fucked anyway.

So fucking punk!

Ebba Grön - Heroinister och Kontorister
Heroin Users and Office Workers.
Mentions people rushing away from their jobs during lunch time.
But not to eat.

You Swedes are so blessed with awesome indie and punk rock.

Day 6: A song that mentions the time of day

There are so many songs which romanticize alcohol. Few are as poetically brutal at describing alcoholism as this.

The motel next door, a sign that reads vacant
And a truth that's so strong I'd be a fool not to chase it
But yet, I'm a fool and I stay here
Hope these problems drown themselves, I die in wait here
One more, four more -- fuck it, a night cap
Service starts at five tomorrow and I'll be right back

Ben knows this subject all to well. It is raw, and ugly, and beautiful.

"Neon Cathedral," Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

Not usually my thing but I like that song.

Day 6: A song that mentions the time of day

The song is about a girl’s first time crossing the romantic line with another girl. The timid, youthful, sweet lyrics give me nostalgia for something I never experienced.

I was in my late 20s, and married to a man, when I finally admitted to myself that I’m bisexual. There’s a part of me that looks back and wonders what that experience would have been like.

The artist, Olive Klug, has a voice that I just adore. I first discovered them on TikTok singing a Joni Mitchell cover, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

I can't remember which party we danced through that night
The boys ask stupid questions
We just laugh at the secret we can't hide
For the first time Cinderella's staying out past midnight
Your lips press soft against my shoulder
It's not forever
It's just a moment we can smile at when we're older

Thank you for sharing this very personal post with us! There is something quite strikingly beautiful about this comment: "The timid, youthful, sweet lyrics give me nostalgia for something that I never experienced." There could be something slightly sad about that if we had already arrived at the finish line of our race... but of course, that is not the case. Every moment is just another part of the journey unfolding before our eyes. I hope that you find exactly what you are dreaming of, one day... whether that be in fantasy or flesh!
Thank you for sharing this vulnerable glimpse into your desires. Oh yes... and a fantastic song, as well. Lovely!

💘 💘 💘 💘 💘
I pray you get the opportunity one day, to find out more about yourself. Guilt free, of course.
Truly, I do 💘
Also, her voice is a crystal! A bit of country twang in there? I'm no good with american accents but it feels country-y.

Day 7: A song that mentions the ocean

Speaking of wonderful voices; Eric Adams has that, that thing which I can't put my finger on. His high notes are effortless. It's one thing to hit that Mariah-esque range, but it's a whole different party to do so without straining. He always sounds like there's more to give. Like there's "room" above what he shows us.

He took one single vocal lesson in his life. Corrected his breathing technique. Rest is self taught. How some people can arrive at this level of mastery without guidance is a mystery to me...
