Day 19: A song from the 70s

One of my all time favorite Maiden songs was meant for their 1979 debut EP The Soundhouse Tapes, but went through remasters and wasn't pressed on vinyl until the eponymous album in 1980. They did, however, perform it live before that back in the late 70s!

It's... eerily beautiful in a way that no other Maiden song really comes close to. There is a line in there which I've wanted to turn into a tattoo for many years, but none of the artists I've commissioned has been able to do it justice. Plasma Wine is so otherworldly, strange, haunting; I fell in love with the imagery from the first time I heard it.

Shades of green grasses twine
Girls drinking plasma wine
A look at love, a dream unfolds
Living here, you'll never grow old

One of my favorite Instagram accounts is Terriblemap. They posted this last week and I saved it hoping it might tie in to decades week. I was not disappointed.

A Song from the 70s on my radio today was The Crusaders' Street Life.

Randy Crawford's vocal elevates it and makes it one of the last great releases of the decade. I'll give you the full album version which is clearly bleaker and more downbeat than the single version while maintaining the dangerous excitement of street life.
