Day 26: a song that reminds you of winter

I came close to posting Max Richther's recomposing of Vivaldi's Four Seasons for all four prompts, but as these were my suggestion, I thought that would get me in trouble.

But I love Vivaldi. Last time I saw "Spring" it was with a lovely string quartet on a stage lit entirely with hundreds of candles and nothing else. It was ethereal.

Day 27: A song that reminds you of spring

Frank Turner was a punk rock singer who changed genres, radically. I have seen variations on that scenario go so wrong that it is odd to see one that goes so fucking right it is almost perfect. He was the singer for Million Dead, but when that band broke up in 2005, he found a copy of Bruce Springsteen's classic album Nebraska, which was entirely acoustic, and he said it changed his entire musical direction. Turner formed a mostly acoustic folk band, with classic instruments and his post-hardcore energy, and it was fantastic.

This is from his 2015 album, Positive Songs for Negative People, and I have rarely felt so seen by an album title.

"Oh the birds are ringing in the opening act of spring,
And I have fallen down and I'm so much worse than I have ever been.
Oh the season's acting strange, and I know that something has to change,
But there is no path I can choose that will not bring somebody pain."

"The Opening Act of Spring," Frank Turner

(Oh, I will carry your umbrella in the summer and I'll shade you from the sun.)

Day 27: A song that reminds you of spring

Technically, Andrew McMahon conceived these as two separate songs, 1) MFEO Pt1: Made for Each Other 2) MFEO pt2: You Can Breathe. But, there's something in the very natural transition between these two songs that almost feels like the shift between seasons, and living in a true 4 seasons climate, the shift from Winter to Spring always felt...hopeful? And there's something about that in both pieces.

Is that 2 songs you posted?

Yeah, you tell him... 😘

Day 27: A song that reminds you of spring

I was surpised that there are more songs about Spring. Turns out a lot of artists are depressed motherfuckers. 🤭

Some people associate Tulips appearing with spring, others birds returning or bears coming out of hibernation. But there is one universal sign that spring is just around the corner: Pitchers and Catchers reporting always means we are on the cusp on Spring.

Is that a sporty sport reference?

So you associate Spring with balls. Mkay.
