Day 28: A song that reminds you of summer
Why was this not released over the summer?!?! This has been bugging me since last night so now my planned song has been usurped by Queen Kylie. Which I'm not complaining about in the slightest. I'm only annoyed I have to wait until next year to enjoy this song at the pool or the beach. For me, it doesn't get more summery than this.

My favorite part of that song is the little tag on the end of the guitar solo just before the last verse.
Being more into Black Flag than The Dead, I like the Ataris cover, but this will always remind me of a very specific time in my life.

Since @Mr_bogey and @vagrantx took my first choice (and I don't want to make it a third cover day) I went with the Aces. This just feels Summer to me.
Great opening riff, outstanding bass line, piercing lyrics.

She's wearing my beat-up jean jacket so damn well

"Girls Make Me Wanna Die," The Aces.

Day 29: A song that reminds you of fall
Afternoon, walking along Alameda Street in Northeast Portland. Worn sidewalk and old, expensive houses, quirky and homey at the same time. The sun, warm in the cool air, dappling the street with light from between the leaves, reddening and soon to fall. That is autumn in Portland.
My favorite part of this song, Elliot at his more clever, happens at the chorus. The chord progression of the chorus ends on a C and the chord progression of the verse starts on a Cmaj7, but Elliot starts the second verse early, effectively cutting the chorus one chord short. It happens at about the 1:30 point of the clip below. It is jarring, and sounds like a skip on an old turntable, like it was a mistake. But it isn't a mistake, it is perfectly on purpose. Listen to the lyrics of the chorus:
"For your own protection over their affection
Nobody broke your heart
You broke your own 'cause you can't finish what you start"
The next verse breaks the word "start." So "you can't finish what you start" never gets finished.
