2009 News & Views: Discussions and Announcements for the Survivorphile

My question is regarding the special contest bonuses. If you write a story for a contest, do you enter the story twice? Once in the special contest bonuses section beneath that particular contest and a second time in the category where the story was posted? Or do you only record the story in the special contest bonus section? Thanks.

The story can only count for points in one place. If it's counted for special contests, it cannot be counted for the category where it was posted. Since you want to earn the bonus, only record it in the special contest section. :)

Thank you.

I didn't get a chance on the 2008 threads but I wanted to thank Lauren Hynde and Crimson Maiden for all their work in moderating the contest. You both did an amazing job under some very intense scrutiny and often unwarrented criticism. Amid a volatile environment you both moderated the 2008 contest with a dignity and grace I think few of the rest of us could have mustered.

I also want to acknowledge the amount of work you did with this year's rule revisions and with getting the contest up and running as quickly as you did. I thank both of you for making this contest possible.

Thank you Lauren and Crimson.

Consensus seems to be one chapter per chain per year, so I deleted the part that made chains where the author had participated previously ineligible.

And thank you, Sunrock. Crimson deserves most of the credit, though. She was awesome all year long. :rose:

Awww. Thanks to both of you. :rose:

Everyone who has registered (who has pms enabled) now has a scorecard thread. That thread is where you are to post the copy of your card (quote the template, copy it, hit cancel, go to your thread, hit reply and paste it there). Please don't post it in the Scorecard template thread. :)

I should have gotten more sleep, because my brain is really thick this morning and I just can't figure this out.

In the Special Contests bonus category, we get 5 points per contest if we choose to count one story from that contest for that bonus. That means if we enter all six contests, we get a total of 30 points. So is the "all-contest" 30-point bonus in addition to that, meaning if we have a story in all six contests we get a total of 60 points for the contest category?

Since the other bonuses are cumulative, I would assume this one is as well. :)

Yep, that's what it means. :)

I hope this is an okay board to ask my question... I see the rules have changed for the Survivor contest since my last attempt (in 2006 or 2007!) and I wanted to make sure I have them right.

Since the points are "officially" tallied at the end of the year and all, that means our scorecards really don't mean didley? As in if we have story number 4, 5, and so on for any one category it does not matter until the end of the year?

Immunities are worth zero points if used? And if so, does that mess up the "filling every category" thing?

And my last question (bare with me)... Poetry no longer has a cap other than this new one that is supposed to be bestowed upon all submissions?

Again, thank you all for baring with me as I get myself reacquainted with the contest rules! lol

Yes, immunities are worth zero points. They still count towards categories filled though. Poetry now uses the same cap system as the story submissions do.

Scorecards were never officially mandated, so I guess nobody can really force you to keep it a certain way. I don't know whether or not the mods would edit it or not though, that's something only they can answer.

Nothing about the scorecards really matters until the end of the year, technically. By then, though, all the stories, poems and immunities you want to count for points will need to be registered there, otherwise they will not be counted. And keeping the scorecards updated is at least a good way of knowing where you stand at each moment.

Explain this immunity cap thing to me ONE more time... slowly and clearly... so I can get it through my thick skull...

If you win an immunity, you can choose the cap level you want it to be at? You don't have to use it for whatever cap that category is at in the moment on your scorecard?

Is that right?

Yep, that's right.

So a competitor getting an immunity today could chose a cap level 10 for a category and then fill in all levels below the immunity with stories over the rest of the year?

Yep, but the immunity naturally won't do them any good until *all* of their categories are at that level. You can't proceed past a cap level until you have filled that level in all categories.

So if you use it in a level 10 category today... but don't make it as far as you thought in terms of writing... it's a wasted immunity?
