2024 Nude Day Contest support thread

What is the meaning of 'short'? I am considering an entry with less than 4k words; is that short?
I think mine is about 5k. In the context of some authors on here who seem to routinely enter 10k+ stories in contests, I think it's fairly short, and it's also on the short side for my personal average story submission.

Also, the story itself is more of a set piece without a lot of plot, which somehow feels short to me.

I was hoping to reassure Morevinila that submitting a story under 4k would be fine.
Thank you for that, you did reassure me. I've seen there's also an authors' challenge on 750-word stories but that's a different story.
Typically what is the average length for a story (stupid me asking such a question)? I've seen many run around 10k, even more. I get the impression stories that are too short are not appreciated by readers.
The one I intend to submit is 3.3K - I'm working with an editor (to help me because I'm not a native English speaker) but I don't feel like I should add anything to it as it would disturb the pace and the mystery.

Everyone has their own “ natural length”. As I said, for Lit my stories are on the short side. I tend to write in 2.5k “chunks”. Sometimes that’s a chapter in a longer work, sometimes I go longer if there’s more to tell. I wouldn’t worry about it.

To give you a frame of reference, a Lit page is around 3750 words.

Every time this question gets asked (which is often) there's a fair consensus from a bunch of writers that 10k is a sweet spot in terms of chapter length (2 - 3 Lit pages). You'll find many standalone stories up around 30k, 40k, 50k - there's definitely an appetite for longer stories.

The longest single submission I've seen was around 80 pages, 300k words.

What is this contest? I've never participated and I do not see any information on it. Can someone provide that for me, or a link to the info? Thanks.

Classic Kurt Vonnegut 1960s sci-fi, mostly forgotten now, sadly.
Yes, I did an internet search for the phrase. Unfortunately, I'm not a huge fan of how Mr. Vonnegut portrayed women as subservient and "lesser" than men, so I haven't read much of his work. Interesting title, though!
