Cool thread, Em!
HONEY!
Thanks Mellifluous One.
So lovely to see you here, o'er the tracks.
Tell me, how is your wee charge? She must be doing much better, yes?

I am not entirely unfamiliar with this part of town, I'll have you know.
And yes, much, thank you for asking.
She was released over a year ago and promptly fractured her femur. Seven months in a hospital bed doesn't do your bone density any favors, but she was able to attend the tail end of school with only minimal accommodations. A summer full of running around with siblings whipped her into shape and this past school year she did pretty much everything she wanted to, within reason.
She's done so well that she requires no physical therapy, and her flexibility has increased so much that her doctors have postponed her first release surgery indefinitely. She's weaned off all of her meds and no longer wears her compression garments. After having her head shaved twice, her hair is now down to her shoulders and covers her small bald patches so that I forget that she has them. The ends are blonde - not really, but it sounds better than 'damaged by endless drugs to keep you alive.' We try to have a sense of humor about these things, our attitude is often the only thing we can control.
Truly, the time in the hospital was horrendous, but to see her running around and being a pain in the ass like the rest of my kids does my mama's heart infinite good.
