Alternate menu on "Turkey Day"

Better than that: I celebrated last year's World Series victory by the Boston Red Sox in a Denny's.

Well that's not so unusual. Unless you mistook it for Hooters?

I have a really tasty recipe for tofu-stuffed sweet potatoes and also one for a magnificent lentil-green bean casserole. My favorite, though, is for tofumkin pie topped with vanilla tofutti. :nana:

Are you kidding?

Sounds interesting if you are being real.

I once ordered a lebanese feast for my family. They loved that shit.

I had spaghetti.

Hey, it's a time-honored tradition among vegans to sprinkle toffutti on newly wedded couples. :D
Yank, are you proposing? :D If I ever do get married and you throw toffutti at me, you know I'll throw it back at you! :p

If anyone cares to share some low carb recipes, I'd be appreciative. Especially if they include chocolate!!
You might find some yummy stuff here , Cate. I use Splenda sparingly, but a lot can be done with it and cocoa powder. I use Splenda and skim evaporated milk (plus extra spices) for pumpkin pie filling as well, and really don't miss the sugar or extra fat. Without pie crust (which I don't care for anyway), it makes for a pretty healthy, filling, and delicious breakfast, snack or dessert.

A family friend also mentioned using Sugar-Free Pudding mix in all sorts of things like cake, frosting, and cookies. She actually wrote a cookbook after her hubby had angioplasty with all of the substitutions and techniques. If I can get my hands on a copy next weekend, I'll send you any suitable recipes. :)

I'm laughing here --- the reference, the AV... something making me chuckle! :)

Karen, welcome to Lit and the HT board... :rose:

As if I didn't love you enough Erika.

Thank you very much... I have used some splenda in recipes, I thought it was fine.

Thanks Cath...I'm finding my way around, ducking and dodging, and hopefully landing in the more stable part of the site. You all have provided a good mix of humor and common sense...so I think I'll stick around for a little bit! :)

Pssst....Cate, we've got her fooled.

So, the Thanksgiving menu is always a hodgepodge that we try to keep simple and stress-free.

The first Thanksgiving menu was probably a hodgepodge as well, with lots of new-world, indigenous ingredients. So, what the hey: spaghetti it is!

We always have at least one pie (it's been Lemon Merengue for the past few years) because the process of making it is meaningful for my mom and I...we use my grandma's crust recipe and techniques, and it's a good opportunity to remember and talk about how special she was to us.

Now that's what it's all about ..

Saw what?

;)

I am very glad you've found this part of Lit. :rose:

Well it does seem more like a nice group of friends here, almost like a little family. I suppose I need to watch out for the "funny uncle." ;)

MWY...I did not mention any names! :D

Trust me, you haven't met him yet....but you will.

Mmmmmm.....fresh home-grown lamb might be a nice change from dry turkey!

It is great butterflied and plugged with garlic, smoked for 12 hours over mesquite (or is it hickory?) I can't remember, but it is gooooo-ooood!!!!

I've had Thanksgiving at Denny's, about 3 years ago. It was..ok. There are very few places open on Christmas, I've looked! ;)

My husband loves to cook. He has this recipe that I think he got from Commander's Palace for smoking the turkey.

I don't eat meat but from what I hear it's pretty damn good.

He makes the whole meal and I eat what I like. My fav is the cream cheese stuffed celery he makes mostly for me.

If someone else brings deviled eggs I do a little nuts about that too!

I love his spinach salads, rich sour cream muffins and other veggies too!

Now I'm hungry!
