Anyone for a nightcap?

I don't own a nightcap either. And I really don't know how or why I managed to buy any granny panties.

I don't mind food AVs so much as the rapid rotation of the AVs. And even though I love fluffernutter sandwiches, I find it a bit tough talking to a sandwich. Or a donought, for that matter.

Cheers ww, g*s and all!
I think we need a cocktail glass smilie for this thread...

Don't tempt fate LB...Yank will put up his tofu sandwich AV...yyyuuukkkk

Whoopie pies are sandwiches made from a pair of large cookie-sized bits of chocolate cake with a creamy vanilla frosting in the middle.

Oh yeah, I definitely didn't need to know that.

4 months, 9 days, 11 hours, 42 minutes, 27 seconds. (Not that I'm counting).

Geez...that is SO true, LB

CHEERS!

Maybe you've posted this before and I've forgotten, what foods are locally grown/raised in your little corner of paradise?

Oooo, LB, I'm salivating over those martini glasses.

OK, here's what can be found locally but bear in mind the fruit and veg that are seasonal may, seriously, only be around for two weeks:

Taro (yuk)
Arrowroot (yuk)
Bananas
Papaya
Cukes
Mangoes (seasonal)
Star fruit (seasonal)
Passion fruit (seasonal)
Pineapple (seasonal)
Watermelon (seasonal)
Lettuce (seasonal)
Tomatoes (seasonal) - season starts soon, I cannot wait.
Bread fruit (seasonal)
Avocados (seasonal)
Limes
Oranges and grapefruit (not many and seasonal)

That's about all I can think of. I catch my own fish, so that's not an issue. Pigs are raised locally but generally not used except for formal feasts or celebrations. There are wild chickens and roosters all over the island but no one who has any taste buds bothers with them, (see: stringy and tough). Pretty much everything else is imported. Really, it's the lack of variety that's killing me.

Believe me, the first six months I was here I was stuffing my face with fresh fruit and just loving every minute of...well...everything. A year and a half later, the novelty has worn off. I should have known. A year is my limit anywhere. Tropical living can be awfully seductive though.

Well, pretty much all fruit or vegs are seasonal everywhere (theoretically) , but I get what you mean. Could you not grow carrots yourself? (I realize its a bit late now to start...)

I have a friend who did a tour in way northern Canada and they would get periodic drop shipments of non-perishable foods, for which they had a special room for in their house. A sea locker, I think it was called.

However I live in a place where the only locally grown food is: garlic, citrus, dates and pumpkins. Chickens too. No fish for a bazillion miles (ignoring the multitude of fish farms that exist here in the desert).

I love garlic, but a diet of the above would get old fast. I feel for you sistah.
