Anyone for a nightcap?

Well, pretty much all fruit or vegs are seasonal everywhere (theoretically) , but I get what you mean. Could you not grow carrots yourself? (I realize its a bit late now to start...)

I have a friend who did a tour in way northern Canada and they would get periodic drop shipments of non-perishable foods, for which they had a special room for in their house. A sea locker, I think it was called.

However I live in a place where the only locally grown food is: garlic, citrus, dates and pumpkins. Chickens too. No fish for a bazillion miles (ignoring the multitude of fish farms that exist here in the desert).

I love garlic, but a diet of the above would get old fast. I feel for you sistah.

Thanks for the sympathy,

It never used to be so bad here but the recession has spilled over into paradise in the last six months. Not to mention that the local people have absolutely zero business skills - not that it's their fault or anything. So, you have all these places that were buying most of their stock on credit and spending the profit on new scooters, TVs, etc. Now that there's a crunch, their suppliers have said "no more credit" and, oops, not enough money to bring in a decent supply of groceries.

The list of things we run out of on a regular basis now is depressing. Plus several shops and restaurants have closed.

When I was in Auckland, I went to the breakfast buffet in my hotel, had eggs Benedict, bacon, hashbrowns, ate until I was full...and then had waffles. Ugh, I never overeat like that. But it was soooooooo good!

p.s. I kill green things. Gardening is not an option for me.

Oooo, LB, I'm salivating over those martini glasses.

OK, here's what can be found locally but bear in mind the fruit and veg that are seasonal may, seriously, only be around for two weeks:

Taro (yuk)
Arrowroot (yuk)
Bananas
Papaya
Cukes
Mangoes (seasonal)
Star fruit (seasonal)
Passion fruit (seasonal)
Pineapple (seasonal)
Watermelon (seasonal)
Lettuce (seasonal)
Tomatoes (seasonal) - season starts soon, I cannot wait.
Bread fruit (seasonal)
Avocados (seasonal)
Limes
Oranges and grapefruit (not many and seasonal)

That's about all I can think of. I catch my own fish, so that's not an issue. Pigs are raised locally but generally not used except for formal feasts or celebrations. There are wild chickens and roosters all over the island but no one who has any taste buds bothers with them, (see: stringy and tough). Pretty much everything else is imported. Really, it's the lack of variety that's killing me.

Believe me, the first six months I was here I was stuffing my face with fresh fruit and just loving every minute of...well...everything. A year and a half later, the novelty has worn off. I should have known. A year is my limit anywhere. Tropical living can be awfully seductive though.

Take your taro, slice it thin and fry that mofo, it's almost like junk food.

Interesting.

I find that my hard limits expand under certain circumstances, and then sometimes they just explode beyond all recognition.

Very interesting...'beyond all recognition'?

I have something similar with my soft limits...but it's more of an all body experience.

I've had fried yams, yes very tasty. I'm sure taro would be similar but the problem of variety still remains. But, could be interesting for a time or two. Thanks.

Hey, but anyone who wants to lose weight should definitely consider relocating to here.

I arrived a comfortable size 7/8. When I went home in Oct I had to buy size 6 and have the waists of those pants taken in. The waists of those pants are now loose. Apathy is a great weight loss aid.

MWY, it took me an entire page of seeing the new Av to figure out who the heck was posting all the talky bits next to the confusing Tarzan Av.

... I was going to change mine tonight (I was in a bit of a mood), but didn't like how the image turned out.

See....the difference between you and I, CM, is that you give a damn about such things as how you appear to the outside world. Which, in your case, is a boon for the outside world. :rose:

Yep... my vanity saved the whole board from seeing the most darling new bra I splurged on today.

A boon, indeed.

;)

(Told ya I was in a mood...)

Clearly.

Because you (or a representation of you) is wearing panties! Don't they feel nice? :)

I love men in panties.
Where's Shank? I need...

Then tell us about the bra. What's it look like?

Molded demi-cup, ecru net with black velvet polka dots; black lace accents at the top of the (scalloped) cups, overlaid with pale taupe embroidered flowers, and the most darling teensy tiny rhinestone buckles and black bows at the center and bottom of the straps.

:D

Even after my employee discount it was ridiculous of me to buy (and I'll have to wait a bit before getting the matching French tap panties), but it is girly and frufru and a bit burlesque-y and it makes me happy.
