"Are You Not Entertained?" An Arts and Entertainment Challenge

Day 24: Free Day
@Tigobitties98 said something in the Face thread the other day; Hair grows out or can be re-colored. It's one of the safest, least permanent forms of self expression. While I agree, and have had my hair most of the colors of the rainbow, my favorite type of self expression is on the other side of that coin.

Tattoos. Near permanent, ever present, and a big decision to make. At first. After a while, it becomes more natural, and more akin to doodling on yourself... But while each subsequent tattoo might not hold as much meaning as my first two do, I still love them all the same. I'm up to.... 8 birds now.

Body art.
Love it to death.

Absolutely gorgeous ink! I love that 😍

Day 25: Something that had a perfect ending

Today I will embrace the cringe and be free. I love Bridgerton. It's silly and romantic and wonderful and Kathony had my whole heart. It's great when the second season is even better than the first. It really did have the perfect season finale.

And a quick shout out to everyone who shared their faves over the last few weeks. It was lovely to learn a little about what makes you all tick. Thanks for participating 🫶🏼

Day 25: Something that had a perfect ending
It's strange. The best story I've experienced in recent years is neither book, nor film, nor play. It's a game.
Disco Elysium is an RPG that came out a few years ago. There's no combat, the graphics are sub-par, but by god. The story. The characters. The writing. The voice acting. It's simply an absolute masterpiece.

Often games like these end on a whimper. The creators had a good idea but were unable to tie it all up. This is the exact opposite; the more you play, the more you experience, the more you want it. Need it. It's a digital page-turner. I locked myself in an entire weekend and basically only stopped to sleep. Hadn't done anything like that since I discovered Harry Potter.

Take a couple of minutes, and listen to the opening scene.
There's nothing but dialogue, between a broken man and his brain.
If you're hooked, play it. You won't regret it.

Day 25

The Secret of Walter Mitty, I think when I first sat to watch this movie I was thinking ok, this is a remake of the original, but no it’s not. It’s such a an amazing movie, far deeper than I expected. If you haven’t seen it, give it a go, it’s always about the people.

Day 25: Something that had a perfect ending

Not seen this thread before... anyway... The Third Man, one of the greatest films ever and the ending is just perfect. If you've not seen the film, WHY NOT?
Anyway... this is it, no redemption, no happy ending, no good feeling, just... perfection.

Almost any Hayao Miyazaki film! There are long periods with no dialogue and only instrumental music. The Japanese word for it is ma meaning a space or gap in time. Miyazaki explained it as, “The time in between my clapping is ‘ma.’ If you just have nonstop action with no breathing space at all, it’s just business.” Those gaps in actions allow for all of the unsaid thoughts and emotions to be stewed over before moving onto the next. Some topics are never resolved with words or actions, but during the ma, there's a sort of acceptance shown or even resolve.

I recorded Wind recently when it was on TCM. But I haven't gotten around to watching it. It was filmed in 1928 (and at one point, had over ten hours of footage they had to cull down). I'm not sure how long it is. It is set in the Dust Bowl, which was happening when it was filmed, with a woman slowly losing her mind.

EDIT: On TCM, it's 78 minutes. The original run time was only 95.

Day fifteen: Something that made you sympathize with a character you'd dislike in real life

Booger from Revenge of the Nerds

Terrible how the frat boys kicked him out of his dorm room but lets face it that guy was disgusting.

Day nineteen: Something that you wish was real

Sometimes I could use a Baymax just to make me feel better, mentally and physically.

Day twenty-one: Something that scared you as much as it fascinated you

The Literature of Stephen King

Day twenty-three: Something that makes you want to travel
Any road trip has got to be better than what they went through. But absolutely hysterical.
