It depends a lot on what my date considers hot - I'd try to plan something we would both enjoy. Planning for myself - it would be an afternoon at a museum, dinner, and then dancing. I think there is a big difference between hot first date and hot subsequent dates.

I just consider where I'll be going and what would be appropriate . If I am going to a sit-down restaurant, I could wear my work outfit. If I am going to a show, I'd have to change into something more casual that didn't make me look like the awkward square in the room. I definitely don't spend an hour trying on this and that.
