Ask the Mouse your lingerie questions...

Hmm, I suppose I thought I would just sit around and pout about it instead?

Perhaps, I should have gone and bought a red bra. I mean, after all, I said I was leaving to go quite some time ago. What am I waiting for?

Hooray for red bra day!

< Another alternative is sock garters - similar to traditional wedding garters (the kind you throw). Be careful on that website; it's addictive. ;) >

sock garters

(And yes, I sold a slip today, so there really are people in the world who wear that stuff...)

Sock garters, too cute. :)

They seem a little casual for what I'm envisioning, though a narrow black pair might work. But the steampunk ones are awfully cute... And the button ones... Hmmm. I wonder if they give a discount for bulk? :D

Wasn't implying people shouldn't wear slips, just that I'm apparently not sophisticated enough to wear them myself!!!

You need long or "opera" - and you'll only get those if you go for fully fashioned, which have their own quirks. BUT - good enough garters will work well on them.

So if I understand this correctly, "opera" = extra long, and fully fashioned = stockings that are flat knitted and joined at the seam (more expensive).

Correct?

Maybe there is something wrong with my modesty levels...? I don't mind the occasional touch to the top of my thigh highs to readjust them, but I also don't have a huge problem with slippage. I.e., I might have to adjust them every 20 minutes or so, but I'm not hitting the dance floor with them, either... I don't buy anything special, just pick them up anywhere I see them. I do hand wash them and don't get soap on the sticky tops - wonder if that makes a difference?

I made the mistake of wearing a pair to the airport one time. (I should have known better. My only excuse is that I was in my 20s) George Bush Intercontinental is large. Turned out my gate was at the very end of the terminal.

Talk about a loooong walk. Hiking up my stockings every 10 steps with people staring. :(

Awesome bra and panties!!!!

I'm disqualified from posting, as surprise!!! I don't own anything red.

My smile is inappropriate, but there's not one for UNcool.

Hooray for red bra day!

Boob Pajamas

Hi CM -
Sometimes I want something with a little support to sleep in at night. I find bras - even sports bras - too constrictive. Any ideas on how to keep the girls comfy at night?
Thanks :)

A tight tank top. I buy some locally 5 for $10 they have adjustable soaghetti straps and are very comfortable as sleepwear

Also work well as everyday wear, under shirts, or under corsets

Seconded. I find a tight-fitting tank up is much more comfortable than a loose shirt (although for some reason, nothing is more comfortable than either of those)

I used to never understand this... I mean, I got it, but at the same time was like wha? And then I gained just enough weight over the last year to go from "small busted" (D or less) to "average busted (E). Not even enough to really need the extra support, but just enough to understand the desire. lol

Snug tank tops are a good idea. I tend to buy my lounge-wear/ sleepwear with support built in. Just about everything I own has an "empire waist" (elastic right under the bust); right now I'm really loving a new pair of pajamas that have a lace racer-back design.

The best support I've ever seen for overnight is The Original Sleep Top. It's the best design I've ever seen for a "lounge/ sleep" bra. I love that thing, and wish it was easier for women to buy (I rarely see them in stores).

Hehe... I never posted here but I read this thread.
I don't have a red bra but I have a dark pink one I enjoy wearing .... And every time I do I think of this thread:D

I had also long eschewed nude bras in favour of pink - which is more my skin colour anyway

Sweet! Tank tops, empire waists, lace racer backs and the Sleep Top. Love the keyhole detail on the Sleep Top! Must find one... the only part I am having a problem with is... D? Small busted? Really?

In the universal sense, yes. However, you have to understand that perspective comes from an awareness that there are far more sizes than A - DDD. In a world where the only options are A, B, C, D, DD, DDD, then yes, a "D" being "small busted" probably does not compute, because EVERYONE has to fall somewhere in the "D" range*.

But in a world where the options are A, B, C, D, [DD], E, F, [FF], G, [GG], H, [HH], J, [JJ], K, I... a "D" really isn't a lot of breast tissue. A 4" differential between the rib measurement and bust measurement, vs a 19" differential between the two, makes the former look pretty small busted (in comparison). ;)

* It was pretty common at the last shop I worked for, for someone to come in saying there were a "D", only to discover that their true bra size was somewhere between an "F" and a "H".

And here I have been wearing bras most of my life in complete ignorance
Enlightened!

I have a question! How many times are you supposed to wear a bra before you wash it? Because they seem to be able to go ages without getting smelly? And I've never actually found anyone who knew.

Although, I'll be trying the bra-rotation thing, so presumably they'll last longer before washing, but I've no real idea what the baseline should be.

I really wish I could wear red, but I'm ginger :( And it clashes. I tend to stick to black. Also, I have no budget (student) so all of my bras are of the £10-£20 range. Which makes me kind of sad, but I have no actual money.

And, another question, if a bra doesn't fit, is there anything you can do to make it fit? With sewing skills? Or is it possible to custom make your own?

Rotate bras so you never wear the same one two days in a row (Monday/ Wednesday, Tuesday/ Thursday, etc), and wash after the second wearing.

For the most part, bras don't get "smelly", but that doesn't mean they aren't dirty. Soap residue, perfume, lotion, perspiration, skin dander... all of it accumulates in the fabric and breaks down the elastic in the band - and the elastic in the band is 90% of the support, so once the elastic is damaged, the bra is on it's way downhill.

I really wish I could wear red, but I'm ginger :( And it clashes.

No excuse (one redhead to another. ;) )

It depends on where it doesn't fit. Cup? Not a lot to be done. Band? You can cut it down, but it depends on how much, and how small. Plus dropping more than 2" (one band size) is less likely to work, than a 2" or less alteration. For example, going from a 34 to a 32 is an easier alteration than going from a 32 to a 29.

Just had to revive the thread to say I now have some spectacular, awesome, luscious, and perfectly divine lingerie. :catroar:

Thank you, CutieMouse!!! :rose:

If you hadn't started this thread I'd probably have never gotten around to upgrading.
