Ask the Mouse your lingerie questions...

Mouse:

I saw an earlier post where you gave advice about how to store bras...the poster was in the habit if folding one cup into the other and you suggested not doing this.
I wonder... am I committing a crime against my bras by hanging them from a hook? Mostly I have lace bras in which there is not much to the cups. Under wire. 40D and I have been fitted recently, so I think I'm actually wearing the correct size. :rose:
Thanks.

Nope; no crime. :) I think someone actually started a Kickstarter something a while back for a product that hung bras instead of storing them in a drawer...

Can I wear a white bra with black panties & black garter belt?

I'm always confused about what to wear under a white blouse & black skirt.

(sorry if this has been covered already, subscribing now so I can read the entire thread when I have more time)

You can if you like, but I can't. Messes with my lingerie chi and I feel "off" all day.

If I'm in that situation, I usually match the set to what is most likely to be seen (the white blouse), or wear a camisole.

No. You wear white panties and no garter belt then.

Also reasonable.

nude under white for fewest lines I think.

Cutie mouse, what about throwing a full slip or camisole into this sort of equation? ;)

Nude (red or pink) under white for the least "show through", but a thin camisole is also an easy fix.

( Fwiw, I don't have matching suspender belt/ garter belt for all my underwear, lots of sets don't carry them in the line...but i wear stockings if I am in dress or skirt all winter...., I wear the best coordinating ones I can.....eg, a yellow set I have has a pink ribbon, so I wear a pink suspender belt.

I am looking forward to cutie mouse's answer to tackling this too. Also non vintage or fetish suppliers of pretty, not too plain, six strap suspender belts if you know any cutie mouse, with proper not flimsy clips, not those plastic things high street stores sometimes use. ( in ...not small...sizes preferably). I really prefer the security of six straps.

Etsy. Any time I need a modern version of a vintage something, I check Etsy first.

But If you really need a solid 6 strap garter belt, that uses proper rubber garter grips, hunting for a vintage one is probably your best bet. :(

I dunno why I have hesitated to ask here. o_O;; Recently (months ago) I had a bit of a 'growth spurt.' Very strange, but apparently nothing to worry about, just need new bras. Which is easier said than done.

My band size is 32, or it was? I've grown at least a full cup size and my old bras can still be worn (unfortunate necessity) but they are rather uncomfortable because I sort of spill out a little (or a lot (ノ_<) ) at the top. So I searched for a cup size bigger and found that the cup is good, but a 32 band is not.

Should I be looking for a cup size bigger and band size smaller? I did attempt this in a B&M but the size seems uncommon. The website you listed earlier has plenty to choose from in the size, though. :) Before I go ordering something, I'm hoping you can tell me if I'm heading in the right direction.

How much weight loss before you need to look at bra resizing? I've recently lost 10lbs. I've tightened up one hook on the band. My breasts still seem to fill the cup of my bras (I'm wearing 34D) but I do feel like I have lost some of my boobage. :(

Do you think that I need a refitting?

Not particularly strange... the average woman's bra size changes about 6 times over the course of her life. Puberty (duh), the changes of which can last until early 20s, weight gain/loss (more on that in a minute), birth control pills... sometimes women experience a secondary growth when they hit their early 30s/child bearing years, and usually there's a tertiary growth as women hit menopause. Wheee!

You may need to go up two cup sizes, to stay in the same band. Unless your weight has changed (more on that in a minute) enough that you're needing a totally different size in clothes, you're probably still the same band size. The discomfort may be because your current bras are near the end of their life (stretched out), and you aren't used to the firmness of a new fit.

Since I'm not there...

Measure the rib cage right under the bust, keeping the tape measure straight/flat all the way around. Keep one finger under the tape measure, and remember the number. If you really do need to stay in a 32 band, your ribs should measure somewhere between 30" and 33". If you're 30" or smaller, you need to go down to a 30 band. (Good luck & godspeed finding it.)

Then lay the "0" edge of the tape measure against the center of the underwire on your bra, and measure straight up to the nipple.

Any measurement between -
0-1" = A
1-2" = B
2-3" = C
3-4" = D
4-5" = E
5-6" = F
etc

(I usually measure 31" - 31 1/2", and wear a 32. If I try a 34, within a few hours the band has warmed up and it's wiggly. My "vertical" measurement is 3.5", so my size is a 32D in most brands - but I do still have to wear the right cut/style to make it work.)

If you've been wearing a 32D (for example), and are spilling out all over, but your rib measurement is still under 33", try a 32E (some brands may list it as a DD). If it still feels too tight/you're spilling out, try a 32F.

If your ribs measure under 30, and you've been wearing a 32D that you're spilling out of, try a 30F as your first attempt. (Every time you go down a band, you go up a cup. That means a 30E = 32D, so you'd want to try a 30F, first.)

If it's been more than 6 months since your last fitting, or your bras are tired (worn out), it's worth getting refit.

Most women see a change in size if their weight goes up or down 15-20#. For some women, 15# and BOOM! They are a totally different band and cup size. Some women change 10#, and their size stays the same, but they need a different style/design of bra. Because breast tissue is mostly fat, as we lose weight (and age) we tend to lose "top tissue", which can create empty space at the top of some styles of foam cup bras.

…>_<…

There's a lot there so I didn't quote it. There's no worry of bras being old, I actually had just purchased some bras before the lovely couple of weeks of intense pain. So, they were practically brand new when it seems my body wanted to play a prank on me. (p_-)

Ha-HA! You spent money on bras and now they don't fit! ψ(`∇´)ψ

 I was a 32B and I've purchased a 32C but the particular bras I purchased have to be hooked on the second in of four hooks which makes me think the band size is wrong. So that's why I thought maybe a 30C (which isn't entirely hard to find, but seems limited). I will measure again when I find my tape and see what to do.

My weight hadn't changed significantly, but I would like to be a few pounds smaller so I'm not sure if that will change anything. As far as I can tell, the size difference was purely just in my chest and not an overall weight issue.

This has been very helpful, thank you. (*^_^*)

Why would I exclude the garter belt instead of going with a white one?

I've often thought of doing that, but not out of necessity, I just thought it'd look nice.

I have a vintage style set from Secrets In Lace. It's pretty well made & does have 6 thick straps with metal clips. It's from the Bettie Page collection which I don't think they carry anymore.

You can if you like, but I can't. Messes with my lingerie chi and I feel "off" all day.
It didn't set well with me either & that's why I asked.

I've picked up a few OBG pretty reasonably on ebay, so that's another option.

Thank you all for your input, it's appreciated!

I ran across these in another thread. Stockings of some sort, but like nothing I've seen before. I don't recall anything similar on the stocking site you linked in the early days of the thread, CM. Do you know what these are they called and where would you find them?

The pic includes, errr...nether regions. Nothing too risqué, but since no one pops in here expecting to see make girl parts I'm posting a link.

Stockings.

They're patterned (printed) thigh highs. Every so often you can find them, but not often. So if you do find some... BUY THEM!

(And thanks for the NSFW warning; I cautiously opened the link as I was boarding a flight for a business trip. lol)

Oh, no! LOL! That could have been embarrassing. :D

And, thank you! I will definitely buy some if I'm lucky enough to find. They are just...oddly appealing.

Why white? Why not skin tone stockings?

It always looks like "tried, but failed".

There is obviously room for personal opinion here. :). Generally, I am not keen on white stockings at all, to me the neutral skin coloured ones ( under many clothes) look more elegant.

Of course even the elegant granny look has followers. So it's always good to know your target audience when dressing up.

I've had to admit to myself that I need "medical" (compression) stockings. Master wears them in basic black, but that's borrring! We were at a doc's appointment for him not long ago, and met a gentleman who was wearing awesome paisley stockings! His wife told me they found them on Amazon. I hit that search as soon as we got home, and ordered my own, outrageous stockings. Obviously not thigh-high, but loads of fun.

Search on Amazon for "Celeste Stein compression" and you'll find them. They're light compression so they're great for folks who spend a lot of time on their feet.

Prior to my recent google, I was not familiar with compression stockings. Interesting. Are they comfortable? Lovely colors and prints. I wish they made them thigh high....

< Luckily G likes my cashmere ones, which are sort of grannyish I suppose. >

*ears perk*

Cashmere, you say? Stockings? Cashmere stockings?

Pics. Or it didn't happen. :p

< Mostly they are merino......but yes, I can dig out some pics and pm them to you.... :). I have just put in another order, even though the weather is getting mild....I used to where cashmere tights/ panty hose, but really, I just prefer stockings.

They are not sheer, they are heavier winter stockings. >

Thank you, Elle! :)

I have a couple more questions:

Do they stay up well? If not, how do you like the crocodile clip garters? Just how warm are they? I wouldn't expect them to be as snug as regular stockings, but I presume they still hug the leg well?

Sorry. I tend to be question-y.

I'm also wondering a bit about shipping costs, as they are UK based. Oddly, considering how global we've become, most of my online shopping is from the US.
