Women vary, and the situation varies. Here are two ends of the spectrum:

A couple of decades ago, my wife at that time and I had sex while she was pregnant. I guess the hormones sometimes put her in the mood, and I found her pregnant body attractive. Once she had a child and was nursing, sex was off-limits for a while. For one thing, she had an episiotomy and needed healing. Then, her nipples also became hypersensitive while breastfeeding our children, and she didn't want them touched [let alone suckled] even when we did start to have sex. FYI, that first marriage was also a sexual mismatch and eventually ended for a variety of reasons including the mismatch. Ok, so that is the more negative end of the spectrum.

In contrast to that, I met a woman on Plenty of Fish a few years back. She was an American working in Japan, and we only exchanged emails. She emphasized the extended bonding effects it could have. No surprise there, since breastfeeding has a bonding effect between a mother and her child. In the context of sex, breastfeeding amplifies the natural bonding tendency of sex.

Most surprising to me was her assertion that lactation was not directly tied to pregnancy and could be induced in other ways. I believe she was in her 40s and not pregnant or had recently had childbirth. She claimed that post-menopausal women could even achieve lactation. She said something about certain drugs and practices that can help induce lactation, and that once a woman starts lactating, she has to keep up the suckling for the breasts to continue producing milk. I came away with the impression that ANR works best in a long-term relationship.

Unfortunately, at the time, I wasn't in any position to take off and live in Japan, and she wasn't coming back to the US, so nothing happened other than a friendly exchange of information.

While I was researching ANR/ABF, I found a dating website dedicated to people looking for that. I don't know if that website is still working. It didn't seem very active, and with a low population of subscribers, people seemed to live too far from each other. I also noticed some women looking for an ANR/ABF with other women. Nothing surprising about that.
