Years ago, when I was in the UK, my friend and I were having a conversation on the train. There was a cute girl sitting across the aisle from us.
Said friend is tall, just like I am. At some point in the conversation, I made the comment, "Ya, one of the down sides of being as big as I am is finding pants that fit."
For the uninitiated American, pants=underpants and trousers=pants in general discussion in the UK, at least to my understanding. And that's how it was understood here.
Said cute girl looks up from her book, and I realize what I said. I laughed and said, "Trousers. I meant trousers." Lead to a good laugh and was a good ice breaker to talking to her for the next couple hours, haha.
If only she knew...
