Can the term "slut" be redeemed for SM episodes?

Can the term "slut" be redeeemed (given 'sting') for SM encounters? (e.g. humiliation

Since the word actually means "A dirty, slovenly woman," and refers to a woman who can't say yes or no for herself, how lacks any self-agency and has had sex with more men than the speaker approves of-- you'd be astonished at how many women understand the negative connotations of the word.

Agreed, which is why I'd take offense if a woman called me a slut (unless I KNEW she meant it in jest), but why I've come to take it as a compliment from men who know me intimately. It doesn't "sting" for me in a masochistic way, but it burns in a delicious humiliation way because the men who say it to me mean it as a way of describing my love of sex, my greed and need and desire. They mean it as almost a compliment. So it 100% depends on who's saying it.

Women. It's a gendered word.

I guess, "Sex addict" can be construed as the male equivalent, and "Addict" removes a certain amount of opprobrium, doesn't it? There's the perception that one can fight an addiction. Calling someone a slut is a complete identification.

(oddly enough, my blog is named; "Dharma Slut")

Does that mean you have lots of sex with characters from Lost?

Nice point, subish!

I've never seen that show, not even once.

Although there are a couple of people on it that look mighty hot to me!

(Dharma is a Sanskrit word meaning "Fate" but-- in the Sanskrit philosophy, you have a lot of control over your fate. You are making your fate at the same time it is affecting you.)

Oh yeah, that Matthew Fox is dreamy. Apparently, Evangeline Lily did phone sex ads before her big break. I would insist that Elizabeth Mitchell brings rubber gloves.

Isn't Sanskrit an Indian language? Hey, they gave us all those weird sex positions so they can't be all bad.

I'd like to rub Naveen Andrews and Josh Holloway together like a pair of boy scouts :D

I would like it if the word slut could be redeemed for a free chocolate dipped cone at Dairy Queen.

Now that would be useful.

How about a Frequent Recipient Card? Collect 11 punches and you get a free...fuck...whatever sluts want. :D

I don't think its lost its punch when used by the right person in the right way.

I like it, the times it has been used in relation to me I have taken it as a compliment.

Then again I like the word 'cunt' as well

If I may chime in here...

Slut and cunt is a compliment, to me, but only by my PYL. Anyone, ANYONE else? An insult.

The term that humiliates me the most, personally is to be called his "filthy whore". That stings more than anything. shrug.

With that said - i think this is a to each his/her own, hmm? And it's based on our own experiences, not what society or even what anyone else says.

I would like to see those two incredibly hot men together, I don't recall asking to see you that way.

Yeah but then every conversation wouldn't be about me, me, ME!

Google it though, they are actors, and if I'm up on my stereotypes that's already happened and someone's video'd it.

Mostly you'll find written stories. Women tend to write. But some do video remixes;

read the comments... :D

Cripes, apparently you're not alone. Anyway, so I don't hijack this thread...I'm gonna call them all sluts and move on.

Getting back to the original question; in my humble opinion the word slut has lost its sting entirely, except maybe among high schoolers bullying each other on Facebook. If you want to call yourselves names during sex games I can think of way more offensive words, many of which I've used during rugby and hockey.

What other names, Felix?

I'm really interested in the differences in insults across gender lines and also-- across the Big pond.

I don't know Stella at the risk of sounding like a misogynist, we're boys we're crude and mean. Okay, because I trust you: whore, cunt, cum dumpster, pig, goobin (a bin for your goo), skank, life support system for a cunt...I hope we can still be friends

Well, I DID ask you to list more offensive words.

But pigs? Are brilliant! Yesterday I got called "pig-girl" by a gay man-- best compliment ever, in the context... made my day.

To me...it TOTALLY depends on the context, who says it and the intention behind it.

I have a girlfriend & we call each other "Slut" & "Whore" in a funny way. Neither of us get offended...we DO not really mean it.

It a hot moment...if used right..by someone that I know in all other circumstances respects me....it can be super sexy.

If it's my BF or Husband in a moment that they are mad at me & it's an attempt to keep my in my place or express disapproval? It's hurtful and spirit crushing and makes me feel misunderstood, and sorta slapped.

I don't know about "redeeming" but i can say that the word slut, like whore, etc...is a lovely hot trigger for me.

I'm not all hard core and my kinky sex is fun even if i'm into pain, so I'm not sure about the more serious folks....but anyway, here's my take.

My husband isn't into it, and it's something he has no interest in trying with me. But we play with others and the (oh so sexy hot) guy I am playing with now uses those words with me. He's most def not trying to hurt me or make me ashamed - other than some humiliation play.

I can't even tell you how charged I get when i'm sucking on his cock and he is pushing my face further down and telling me what a cock hungry slut i am ;-) I love it, he loves it, so it's all win - win here!

Yeah...a situation like THAT....it WORKS!;)

This is likely what I'd assume was implied if someone from my mother's generation called me a slut.

It's a shame that in the sexually liberated west promiscuity in men and women is still viewed, described and judged so differently.

In a sexual setting with a partner, being a sub maso with a strong kink for humiliation I don't care what I get called. I will feel whatever the dominant party intends that I should feel. Like DGE says, context is everything.
