Canada from Eh to Zed

I hope you won't revoke my honourary citizenship, but only after seeing these lyrics did I make the connection with the phrase, "true north, strong and free."

In my defense, I've only ever heard the anthem sung at close range in French and that was a long, long time ago.

Keroin might not, but I might! *looks down at my location, hoping I haven't changed it so this makes sense*

I still have trouble remembering the last change they made to the anthem. I'm with you Keroin in feeling pride for my country when I hear the anthem. I sometimes wish that as Canadians we were a bit more demonstrative about our love for our country.

lol!

*waves*

ooh am a fellow Canadian! Live in Northern BC, still hella winter here! :p

Wanted to say Hello!

*waves back and offers steaming hot mug of Timmy's coffee*

It has been a looooooong winter for us in Southern BC, too. Even the hardcore snowboarders are starting to complain - and we have it much easier than you, I'm sure. ;)

Stay warm!

The last change I remember was when they added "From far and wide", which I think was good because all that O Canada got a bit repetitive.

I'm of two minds when it comes to patriotism. I've been to several other countries and I still feel that there is nowhere else on this earth I would have rather been born and raised. At the same time, flag waving patriotism creates divisions and that's something the world could use a heck of a lot less of. I mean, most of us live here, in Canuckville, by sheer luck, it's not as if we're born and someone offers us a menu of countries to choose from. Not to mention that we essentially "stole" this country from the people who were living here before us and whose descendants still suffer because of it...so, I'm good with muted pride.

Also, I think that our lack of overt patriotism is one of the reasons that we have a good global reputation. As a traveler, that's a reputation I'd like to keep!

(But, yeah, Canada rocks! :D)

You did, in fact, change your location. :p

At least, when I can count you and Keroin amongst my friends I've managed to lose the image of Doug and Dave Mackenzie as my internal avatar for all things Canadian. :D

All good points, that I can't argue with.

Just something about seeing all the American flags on so many homes, the support for their armed forces, all the cute thing styled on the American flag makes me a bit envious, but you're right it's from the same characteristic as their overt patriotism and for some thinking that the world and all that's good about it ends at the end of their nose.

**Sips hot Tims coffee**

Thanks for the warm wishes! :)

You Canadians will do almost anything to keep your country in the news, but I never thought that you'd stoop to forcing elderly women to run insane lengths of time, just to bring interest to Canadians. Have you nothing better to do?

All hail Olga Kotelko: The 91-year-old track star! Just as the story says...Yet, perhaps most remarkable is that most people Olga's age consider it an accomplishment - and exercise - simply to be breathing in and out!

Canada, from Eh to Zed to Cephei

Ya know I always though that dead mouse guy was a no talent pop jerk, but this new song, the guy can make it. Wish he'd do it more.

So, I wonder how many non-Canucks know we have a federal election coming up.

For that matter, I wonder how many Canucks know we have a federal election coming up?

Also, I love Norm Macdonald's take on Canadian vs US politics, on the Daily Show...

"I think we should build the bridge."

"Nah, I don't care for the bridge."

Yup.

For the US folks...March 31st episode.

From what I hear, it's going to be an odd election, too.

I saw that interview with MacDonald and I think he was as high as a kite.

By "odd" you mean "mind numbingly boring" right?

Actually, L doubled him on a movie several years ago and I met him on set. The dude is just like that, he's a strange personality, no drugs required.

Actually, I think I heard somewhere that the election might not actually change the composition of the government by very much at all despite the fact that it's being called.

Yikes is all I can say about MacDonald. It was a stitch watching Stewart, who simply could not keep a straight face.

The landscape of Canadian politics never changes very much, no matter what. This time around, I think I'll just close my eyes and pick whoever my finger lands on.

And yeah, I loved watching Stewart in a constant state of crack up.

quoted for truth! :)

*yawn* another election! lol! Got to get my vote on though! That gives me that badge to complain about the government! :)

The skirts will start populating Bloor (or College) really soon. I think I'm gonna do a lap Monday.

Lap around a few blocks downtown...with sunglasses on. Nothing says spring like bare female legs.

New in town

Hey... sorry to just jump right in the middle of anyone's conversation, but I am new to the Lit Boards (not Lit, just the Boards) and I thought I should introduce myself to fellow Canadians, eh?

Welcome, EB! Take off your toque, have a seat on the chesterfield and enjoy some hot Timmy's coffee and donuts.

So are you from the left, right or middle bit of our expansive country? (No need to be specific, just need to know if I can make poutine jokes around you or not. ;))

Hi Keroin! Thanks for the warm welcome!

I'm from the West ... or Left as you mentioned! So... I'm afraid your poutine jokes will be almost lost on me!
