Canada from Eh to Zed

Depends on your budget. I'd try and find one on sale. But if you need that type of hat, they're very good and guaranteed.

Do you think it would make me look old manish?

I like it cause its sun/water proof and can fit with a backpack, and wont break.

But its 80 $, for a hat...

Their catalogue and website shows younger people wearing them and they look fine to me. No idea how you'd look in one.

Yup, definitely good quality and as I said, guaranteed for life.

uhuh...would you get it online or is there a retail store near you? Where I am, Tilley's has a warehouse sale each summer, with great prices. I think their hats were half price.

We're number two! We're number two!

ETA: And that makes me really happy. :)

If I may, I would like to retain my honourary citizenship even though I'm no longer in Blissville, Canada. I would very much like hang out with you all at the number two position even if only intellectually and not physically. (And I almost wrote "like to be in number two"...but I know what some of the clowns here would say about that...Two Girls One Cup is so NOT my thing).

I live in the Detroit area. That is just North of Canada. Really look at map of Windsor, it is South of Detroit. When I was young I went to Windsor. Port Huron and other place a lot. Great place to take a date for dinner and great place to date that Canadian red head.
To me Canada is like a sister. She will mess with for the fun of it but I love her.

Freakin' link doesn't work right. It goes to that clip, but with an >18 warning and "I'm over 18" button, which (after the 2nd, 3rd or 4th click) throws you to "Recommended" clips. Same thing happens when trying a search on the clip's name.

Hm, worked for me. And that clip was...oddly satisfying. I'd like to flashbang all of the rioters in the nards.

Idiots.

Eh, I am no fan of aristocracy.

Why is it that when it comes to money we are so ready to let the few sit at the top?

Okay, it worked for me this time. Dunno why I was getting that crap earlier. Yeah, clip *was* kinda emotionally satisfying. Rioters for something like that should get that or worse.

I'm lost too. Do you know what the Vancouver Canucks riot was about? Namely, the Vancouver Canucks and their loss of the Stanley Cup?

And isn't it so Canadian that some of the rioters have put up apologies on their Facebook pages and turned themselves in?

The riot had little to do with the Stanley Cup, or hockey for that matter. It was about too many people, too much alcohol, too few brain cells, and mob mentality. Unlike 1994, this wasn't some spontaneous explosion of stupid, though. There were a small group of people who came downtown that night prepared to incite a riot - and then to reap the benefits of the chaos, (namely by looting, which didn't happen to this extent in the '94 riot).

What pisses me off is that, even though I'm not a hockey fan and don't watch professional sports as a rule, these assholes but a black mark on a city otherwise known for peaceful celebration and good sportsmanship. I did watch the final game, with a group of my friends here, (hey, there was pizza), and when the game was over, we all applauded loudly for Boston and commented on how well they played. Likewise, at the live game, Vancouverites cheered both for their home team and their rivals at the end - they even gave the Boston Goalie a standing ovation. The majority of Canucks are good sports.

Thankfully, this time around, technology is on our side. There have already been over a hundred arrests and there are facebook pages and websites dedicated to exposing and identifying the rioters. Also, many locals came downtown the next day and helped clean up the mess.

Still, I hate that this happened. Hate.

And I think that it's funny that people think I'm "weird" for avoiding big cities and big crowds. 100,000 people on the street, many drunk, all super hyper? Honestly, how could anyone not see that something bad was probably going to happen? I wouldn't have gone within ten miles of that crowd.

And isn't it so Canadian that some of the rioters have put up apologies on their Facebook pages and turned themselves in?

Yeah, it is. And that's one of the reasons I love being a Canuck.

Ok, Ok, given, but the Stanley Cup was the precipitating event. Even if they were looking for an excuse.

I was in downtown Hamilton way back when the Jays won the World Series for the Second time back-to-back, right from the time the cop cars zoomed in and blocked it off for cars until they left, and that was an experience. In a good way, of course. Don't think I'd have wanted to be in downtown Toronto. The giddy euphoria was amazing. I've never had that feeling with a crowd since.

You found that it's from "les habitants" or "the locals," right? I wonder if there's any connection with Habitant brand soups, which used to be a favorite imported product in the French Canadian community where I grew up.

Habitant soup......the only soup for on cold Canadian winter days .....add some smoked ham....yummmmmmmm

Written 48 hours before his passing...RIP Jack Layton.

Canada is a great country, one of the hopes of the world. We can be a better one – a country of greater equality, justice, and opportunity. We can build a prosperous economy and a society that shares its benefits more fairly. We can look after our seniors. We can offer better futures for our children. We can do our part to save the world’s environment. We can restore our good name in the world. We can do all of these things because we finally have a party system at the national level where there are real choices; where your vote matters; where working for change can actually bring about change. In the months and years to come, New Democrats will put a compelling new alternative to you. My colleagues in our party are an impressive, committed team. Give them a careful hearing; consider the alternatives; and consider that we can be a better, fairer, more equal country by working together. Don’t let them tell you it can’t be done.

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

All my very best,

Jack Layton
