Casting Call: Next Bond. . . James Bond

David Niven played Bond in "Casino Royale." I heard it was a real stinker.

It was and is. They tried to make a satire of a Bond movie, forgetting that all Bond movies are satire, as were the books.

Ian Fleming knew the real world of espionage and how nasty and dangerous it was. He wrote a fantasy of it, caricaturing the reality.

And let's not forget the first ever man to play James Bond - Bob Holness. Yep, that's 'Blockbusters,' "Give me a P please Bob" Holness who played Bond in a South African TV and radio series.

This means nothing to the Yanks, but may surprise some Englishmen who actually know who Bob Holness is.

I can't believe Colin Farrell or Russell Crowe are even being considered. Can't see them as Bond.

Quite liking the idea of Hugh Jackman, but not sure I really want a Yank Bond.

Jackman's australian. He just has an affinity for accents, much the same as Christian Bale. I thought he did a particularly good US accent in Swordfish, but then I'm not from the US, so I could be mistaken. Anyone have any critiques on Jackman's Swordfish accent?

And I still have to respectfully disagree with the Connery statement. Connery has never been Bond, nor Prof. Jones Senior, nor Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos, nor Captain Ramius.. Connery remains faithfully Connery, no matter what he's in....

Which is why he's so popular, because Sean Connery is just so fuckin' cool :)

But he ain't Bond.
