Chain Story - Bathtubs and Broomsticks

I'd suggest "From Dusk 'till Dawn" ('cause night filming) but, ya know. Kinda already a well known Vamp movie title.

Echoes of the Countess
Bloodlines in Focus
Cameras, Creatures and Confessions
Films, Fangs, and Fables
Reels & Revenants

(I was trying to think of things that might sound like Mina's article title.)

I know that it's only a working title, but I just thought that Bathtubs and Broomsticks sounded way too Disney.

lol, yes. I don't know if it was Disney, but there was a fun film called Bednobs and Broomsticks that I was playing on. It wasn't intended seriously as a title.

Ideally we want a short title, so we can add chapter titles, e.g.,
Blood Lust Ch. 01 A Mini Adventure

Perhaps something to highlight the erotic side of erotic horror?

Yes I was trying to work in an erotic angle too but it seems difficult, at least without possibly coming off tacky. I think the tone of our story is rather serious so I was hoping to reflect that. That's why I thought that hinting at the movie angle would be provocative, cameras suggest porn and in that way could be erotic.

Titles like Images in Blood or Blood and Lust or Echoes of the Countess all work but are a bit vague, while a title like Lights, Camera, Blood feels more grabby and gives a more erotic horror feel which is more true to the elements of the story, gives the reader a half-decent idea of what they're about to click on. It's less arty though and sorta blunt.

I suppose do we want to err on the side of artiness and risk having a title that makes people go "meh, what the hell is that?" or on the side of grabbiness and people thinking that we're being artificially sensational or even campy.

If we want a German soft core porn, then campy it is! : P But then what is the tone of the narrative, dark subtle and mysterious or blunt and campy?

Given we don't know where we'll end up, it would be best to leave the title until the work is completed. But if we publish serially, we need a title to start.

Through a Lens Darkly

It's difficult. On one hand there are titles like ...

Shadows in the Dark

Or whatever. You know those titles that you always just pass straight over in the new list. They're so vague. No one cares. They could mean anything. They don't grab anyone or tell anything about the story. They're so meh. On the other extreme there are titles like ...

I Fucked my Mom in the Ass with my Big Black Dick

They tell the reader exactly what they want to hear, but they're totally tacky and not the least bit arty. Of course our story's equivalent of IFmMinAwmBBD would be something like ...

Lesbian Vampires Getting it on in a Dark Castle

I don't think any of us want that. We do have a fairly arty concept and our title should do it some justice. So how do we get an arty title that still has some grabbiness or at least something relatively specific to the story? I think that key words are our best friend here.

Bathory Moon

That's not bad. The key word here is Bathory. It may be lost on many, but the vampire crowd will know exactly what it's about. It could really hook that crowd. I think that it would be better than say Vampire Moon or Blood Moon (which are more generic/bland) and it's certainly stylish and arty. I like it a lot.

Then there's still ...

Lights, Camera, Blood

Not just a key word but a key phrase that everyone knows, so they know that a movie is involved and with one word (cleverly) twisted (blood) they know that it's horror in some way. So the subliminal message is horror movies and potentially with porn. I think it's a good grab. The only downside is that it's a touch campy, like "It Came from Outer Space!!!!" or something.

I do like Lights, Camera, Blood...

I've just watched Abigail. Utterly brilliant.

Bathory Moon is on the selective side rather than having broad appeal.
Lights, Camera, Blood sounds like the slasher character in a horror film turns on the crew.

I agree but it does speak to a large part of our target audience and I seriously doubt that a vampire horror story is going to have any broad appeal anyways. A title like this is probably going to be about as broad as we can get without being bland as all fuck.

Lights, Camera, Blood sounds like the slasher character in a horror film turns on the crew.

It does, kinda yes, I admit that, but to me it's better than the other choices.

Blood themed choices (blood is a good word after all):
~ For The Blood Is The Life
~ From The Dark
~ Written In The Blood
~ Born to Blood
~ Blood and Lust
~ Blood Lust

All of these are very vague and none of them really grab anyone's attention. None of them say much about the story neither. Some of them equally sound like a slasher flick.

Here are some other ones:
~ Carpathian Dreams
~ In Carpathia
~ By the Dark of the Moon
~ The Countess's Castle
~ Echoes of the Countess

Again, these are very vague. Carpathia may be a key word that suits our story but it doesn't nearly have the grab factor as Bathory. A lot more people will know Bathory than Carpathia. It has way more cache.

~ The Dead Aroused

This is a zombie movie title, so it's misleading.

Movie themed choices:
~ Images in Blood
~ Bloody Pictures
~ Bloodlines in Focus
~ Through a Lens Darkly

I think that these are some of the better ones but I don't think that any of these have the grab factor that LCB does.

~ Cameras, Creatures and Confessions
~ Films, Fangs, and Fables
~ Reels & Revenants

These sound like nursery rhymes. : P Sorry. (blush)

If you lot don't mind a drive-by title suggestion, I recommend some variation on Ligurio Sanguineus. It's Latin, and could be translated as 'lust for blood' and/or 'licking blood'. To me, it sounds kind of like a title Dario Argento might have used for a vampire movie.

Just thinking of the classics:
Bathory's Heir
Virgin Blood
Bathory Reborn
Bathory Rises

ETA:
Bathory Aroused

Again, keeping it short and adding a part title to tease, is one way to suggest multiple things.

Bathory Ch. 01: A Moth to the Flame
Bathory Ch. 02: No Ordinary Camgirl

Lusting To Live - covers the motivations of Lucy, Millarca and Elizabeth, has "lust" to draw in readers, and is fairly short.

Sanguine Kisses: The Premiere
Sanguine Kisses: Journalistic Integrity
Sanguine Kisses: Director's Cut

Etc.?

Bloody Kisses would work, too, but I like Sanguine, mostly because of the dual meaning of "bloody/blood-red" and "optimism in a difficult situation."

Ooo, idea! @Tio_Narratore I won't presume to tell you how to write your chapter, but if you could drop a line in somewhere about how Lucy feels that Richard is sucking the life out of her, that would be some great foreshadowing. You could lay it on thicker by making him a lawyer, too. :)
