Crafty Litsters show your work!

I think it makes sense. But sadly someone would need to administrate it which means they wouldn't get a present. Or they would but they'd know who was crafting theirs.

There's a crafty pay it forward going around facebook. I signed up under a friend who had no participants, and now I find myself with out any participants.

Some one mentioned that the reason she was having issues with it was because people wanted to send things back to her, more like an exchange.

This got me thinking, that would be a really cool idea, and why do we have to wait for Christmas for Secret Santa type games.

Would anyone be interested in a craft exchange type thing?

I'd be all for it :) I've seen something similar in the Letterboxing community where the items make the rounds until they come back to the original sender. Works kind of like a shotgun start for a disc golf tournament lol I think it'd work and, just to keep things interesting, you could always just declare a subject (like a holiday, color, season, animal, etc) and then the craft itself would be up to the individual. With the cheaper packaging through USPS, it might prove to be fairly inexpensive as well. Not sure about folks across the pond who'd have to send something here, though. It's been years since I did international shipping and then I went through the military post offices which worked (mostly) like the US ones.

I ship internationally all of the time, and as long as it's something small, it hasn't been such an issue. Now right now I'm looking at an almost 10lb 12" cube that's addressed for Ireland, but the $55 price for that is just a tad beyond me for another couple of weeks.

I wouldn't mind shipping something internationally, and we could use that as an optional thing.

Thought I'd share some of L's recent stuff, (because I'm so impressed). The lighting and background isn't great but it's all I had to work with.

This is one of the arbors.

This is the garden swing. Didn't get a photo of the frame before it went away.

This is the kitchen table he just built for the new place. I love cedar. Such a beautiful wood!

I like the Asian design elements of the arbor and the sturdy roundness in the swing.

The kitchen table looks like a classic square apron-and-leg construction and the angled top shows off the cedar quite nicely. Looks like a generous application of polyurethane, too, which will keep all those martinis from damaging the goods. :D

All very beautifully done. Thanks for sharing.

My pleasure!

That was his first ever arbor. The second one has a rounded top and is very nice but I don't have a good photo of it yet. The table was kind of a rush - nothing to eat on! But I do love the way he highlighted the cedar, yes. It is martini-proof too, as you have noted. :)

Do you have a place for the arbor, at your new place. And shouldn't it be...arbour? :D

Hm, yes, it probably should be "arbour", what was I thinking? :D

We do have a place for the arbor but this one, and hopefully many more will be sold.

Just noticed your sig line. Seems to me that at ninety miles per hour what matters most is arriving at 0 miles per hour only as planned.

Lately I feel like my lathe skills took a jump. Here are some of my new pieces-- a series of magic wands, all of them under 13 inches long and crystal tipped. I don't know why this size pleases me so much. The crystals look more proportionate, or something.

Also, I am very pleased with the pictures I've been taking!

Walnut, aqua aura, gold leaf, just 13 inches long

il_570xN.237782711.jpg

Ash tinted green, with my very first lampworked glass flame-shaped tip, silver and gold leaf

il_570xN.237766662.jpg

Fiddled maple, brazilian quartz crystal, silver leaf

il_570xN.194891880.jpg

Native Black Willow, gemmy aquamarine beryl tip, obsidian pebble in the base. Silver and gold leaf.

There are more, too-- i can't stay up any longer tonight. I
ll be adding them to my etsy store over the week.

Stella these are lovely. I particularly like the green one. I'm taking that they're decorative only, for us non-magical people. Beautiful none the less.

It´s a great idea to take the pictures like that, with the books.
I can't decide if I like the first one or the second one best.

They do make beautiful decorations! And I once made a pair for a bride and groom to carry, instead of flowers. I wish she'd sent pics of that wedding.

The whole desk is a set-up. It's two bookshelf shelves sitting on top of a milk crate LOL with some random collected bits arranged around. That way I can take the whole thing down in a hurry.

The pictures are as amazing as the items, Stella.

That's one of the reasons I really need a bigger apt. I don't have a clear spot in my apt where I can take pictures. At the moment I'm contemplaiting on how to set up a dummy on my bed so I can take some as that's the only space I have with a solid back drop!

I know! The white background that I'm using is one of those three part foam core boards they sell to kids for their science fair projects. And I use the white lid of a big plastic storage tub, to bounce a little light back onto my set from the shadow side.

I did invest in Adobe photoshop elements, it goes on sale pretty regularly-- the most expensive peiece of software I've ever paid for  I was trained in the pro version, and am so grateful for that. Elements is pretty good. it doesn't have absolutely everything i used to use, but most of it.

Another possible solution fo r you is a white sheet draped over a curtain rod that you just shove on top of a tall credenza or whatever you have! hta's how my sister is doing it in this one. There's a whole lotta stuff behind there;

*groan* look at that coat! What a dream...

I particularly like the 2-headed stuffed animals. :D One time I had a friend who had a nightmare about winged walruses attacking him, so I sewed little wings on a stuffed walrus for a gag gift.

This is my current project - my sister requested a large kinkade-style painting of plants and architectural elements for her office wall.

Next step will be adding the water for the fish pond/stream, and some grass, and a weeping cherry tree, and a fountain, and a foot bridge... (As a separate project, I'm trying to talk my housemate into building a koi pond in our back yard, with a solar-powered pump for a little waterfall.)

Okay, now I know what to do with the little beanie snail!

I am in awe of tromp 'l'oel artists:rose:

The clothes look fabulous! Kudos!

The green prices are annoying, hard to see against my default light gray background.

Thanks. :)

Today is my first day playing with this.

I wanted to get a few things up so that I feel like I'm being productive, and now I'm wanting to tweek things...I'll see what setting I can play with.

These all all things I've had in my "selling closet" for 2 years! The photos are left over from a location shoot I did with them. I'm hoping that when my brother is up here I can steal my neice and get some with her actually wearing some of the garments in that closet.

Space can be an issue, but providing a backdrop can be easy, especially for someone like you who has and knows their fabrics. I use a variety of colours and textures....they hang over a hanger behind our living room door....and I just take the one I want for a shoot and set it up. You can put them over a curtain rod, or a closed door, or even hang them from hooks if possible I had one of those foldaway plastic tables for laptops or TV dinners which broke, but instead of throwing the frame away, I now use it to drape backdrops over when doing flower shots. A good satin can work beautifully without necessarily being shiny if you don't want it to be. This one below was with a light lingerie satin backdrop.....

My problem is more having enough floor space. My apt is tiny, and my sewing takes up about 75% of my living/dining area!

I think I can do the children's costumes on my bed. I have fabric hung on the walls in my bedroom anyway, so back drop is built in. But the adult stuff will have to wait until it drys out and I can go mobile.
